I was stating that in America an obvious lampooning skit is free to make absurd statements but to deliberately slander or libel someone is against US civil law and one can be sued for it. A performer like Tina Fey can say, as a Palin character that she can see Russia from her house If a political rival or say a news outlet were to make that patently nonfactual accusation they could be threatened with a lawsuit if they refused to retract an inaccurate statement. Ergo, facts matter.

Nobody seems to have actually read what I actually wrote.....and if they did read what I wrote, they didn't process it very well.

Both tacmotusn and BTPOst have both convinced me that Sarah, IS able to see Russia from Alaska. I said nothing about seeing Russia from her house. In what way is what I wrote factually incorrect? Do facts still matter??? And is the scurrilous suggestion by Phyrrus that I "shut my man pleaser" an acceptable usage in this thread, in the context of the COC??? I have amended my post to remove any equivocation on my part about Sarah Palin's remarkable visionary capabilities....similar amendments by other posters to redact claims I didn't make would also seem to be in order.

I have no fear that Sarah Palin will be gunning for me with litigious law suits or any other kind of injuctory folderol. Besides, I feel secure in the knowledge that I can retain the services of that sterling SM attorney, Mr F. Ticious, for a half share of the book publishing, motion picture, stage play, opera libretto, and IPhone AP royalties when I write my account about of how I sued those who defamed me by libelling me!!!! Yep...facts DO count!!!:p

I think that the uniform board may have been nervous about exactly where that pocket button may have rested. Shiny gold ones may have been too distracting to her fellow military members. Best to pretend that she just doesn't have breasts.

You mustn't take that comment too seriously. In the Marine Corps, that's considered witty repartee. Marines say things like that to each other so often that they sometimes forget that their banter is not appropriate in conversations above that of an eighth grade level, or of a Marine barracks. At the end one of my Mediterranean deployments, etiquette coaches were hired to ride the ship back across the Atlantic with us, so that they could provide instruction in proper table manners and appropriate language usage in conversations.

Although I'd like to think that the expression "man pleaser" was a bit of rough and tumble jocularity between peers, but at the risk of being wrong in assuming that Phyrrus considers me a boon, buddy, peer; I'm more inclined to consider it to be the slur that was intended. I didn't take the comment any more seriously than it deserved. If your Jarhead colleague underwent the same kind of post deployment etiquette training as your troops undertook, I think the DoD might want to get a refund from the etiquette coaches concerned. ;)

For those of whom Marine Corps English is not a first language....the following link may make contextual sense of what Phyrrus wrote.

    Urban Dictionary: Man Pleaser

Just as a side note, out of idle curiosity, I searched Google Images for the antonym of "man pleaser", and it came up with an avalanche of images of women's shoes.....it seems that women would prefer sexy shoes more than oral sex! :D

Allow me my delusions. I'd prefer to consider it rough jocularity, than to accept that a United States Marine officer would intentionally make a coarse insulting comment to a military officer of an allied nation, and thus bring embarrassment upon the Marine Corps. I'm sure that at the Basic School, the phrase "An Officer and a Gentleman" is still dusted off occasionally.

Panties all twisted up in this thread... At ease boys....

And for the record any self respecting enlisted Marine like myself would never be caught dead using the term "man pleaser".
The correct usage if the term is cock holster or cum catcher. - But only if it is directed at a male. Since we appreciate the ladies, the derogatory terms are replaced with much more endearing ones.

Carry on with the funny pictures :)

NPD, scourge of the cyber world. Seems a common disease on the internet. Hope they come up with a cure for it soon. We need Jerry Lewis to do a telethon for it.

    Symptoms of NPD
Some people diagnosed with a narcissistic personality disorder are characterized by exaggerated feelings of self-importance. They demonstrate grandiosity in their beliefs and behavior.

    Symptoms of this disorder include:

    • Expects to be recognized as superior
    • Envies others and believes others envy him/her
    • Is preoccupied with thoughts and fantasies of great intelligence
    • Lacks the ability to empathize with the feelings, desires and beliefs of others
    • Is arrogant in attitudes and behavior
Other symptoms include: has trouble keeping healthy relationships with others, easily hurt or rejected.

Narcissistic personality disorder is characterized by an over-inflated sense of self-importance.

In addition to these symptoms, the person may display arrogance, and seek to show superiority.

Narcissists have such an elevated sense of self-worth that they value themselves as inherently smarter and better than others, when in reality they have a fragile self-esteem, cannot handle criticism, and often try to compensate for this inner fragility by belittling or disparaging others and their beliefs in an attempt to validate their own self-worth. Comments and criticisms about others and their beliefs are often relentless from sufferers of NPD, in an attempt to boost their own poor self-esteem.

    NPD2.

    Just a public service announcement.

Of course anyone who thinks that is directed at them should google "Hubris" also. A severe side effect of NPD.
