Not sure....but if right handed, you are dextrous...from the Latin, dexter, which means right.....and if you are left handed, you are sinister, from the Latin meaning, left.

 

I agree. I had a teacher in high school that made me write with my right hand only. That class was such a struggle. As all left handers, we seem to be more adaptable, living in a right handed world.

@chelloveck I don't think those people back then were Democrats because Dems LOVE trying to help the different but they usually screw it up. Does that make sense?

 

I know exactly what your sister went through. It was awful. So is Thanksgiving seating rearrange to accommodate the lefty?

 

The bride and 2 out of 4 children are south-paws..seating is a piece of cake..I just sit at the head of the table....lol

 

You left out part of this.
Dexterous IS right handed, and ambidextrous is to be right-handed on both sides.
Sinister IS the word in Latin for left, but it is also the word for EVIL.
This is also mixed with heraldry. We mark left things black (for evil) and right things red (king's word is law, so red is "of the blood")and always right.

I tried Latin and lasted a week, switched to Russian and that was dismal. I think I am a one language kinda gal. And even that is questionable, I still speak in my home-state kinda way.

Good idea, I am much better with my right than left... but wait, I'd need to double the money in my budget for gloves.

 

Equating left-handed peoples' plight to homosexuals doesn't work for me.

 

Why not? both are dispized by the catholic church, nuns DID whack knuckles of left handed writers to drive out the devil's influence, and priests DO speak out against homosexuality.
The real question would be "what part would nuns whack to drive out the homo, and would it be anymore effective than whacking knuckles was?"

 

I agree, it doesn't really work for me either. Few left handed folk are killed and persecuted for being left handed these days as compared to homosexuals. Man, if there was a Levitical command that all Left handed folk be stoned to death as an abomination, I'd totally be there in a heartbeat, with a handful of beach sand to join in the fun!
