Below is a copy of a response to a recent fundraising email. I tell you that I am an ardent supporter of the NRA mission, but I am becoming disenchanted with the methods and effectiveness. the tops p[ortion my reply, included below that the original email. Chris, Im going to going to give you some unsolicited advise. If you prefer I don’t, reply with “SHUT UP” in the body of the message. You need to stop asking for money at EVERY opportunity, if your intent is to inform the membership of current events; just inform us. Tell us what we SHOULD BE DOING other than give you $50 every two weeks. Some of your life members, who are both recruiters and instructors are dealing on the street level with the aftermath of your unrelenting effort to fill the coffers. Yes I realize you can’t conduct operations without cash ,and you probably realize there is nothing for the organization to do once every member becomes disenchanted by the "send money and we will take care of the rest” never ending cycle of appeals for our hard earned cash. Wouldn’t 20,000 protesters in Connecticut do far more than a million dollars in the general fund? If not you’re doing it wrong! Inform us of events, call us to action but stop asking for money more than 1x/annum. Tell us who to write Give us numbers to call and a script or bullet points Organize a sit-in, march or simply filling the gallery of state legislatures BEFORE the vote infringing the rights of our brothers. Why are you telling me after you lost a well funded lobbing effort that you need more money “next time”? What is that going to do for the good people of Commie-neticut? I was a founding member of the NRA Second Amendment Foundation 20 years ago, have been a life member longer than I can remember, am and Instructor and Recruiter. I am not saying I am doing all I can or should I’m saying I have the address and will send as much $ as I can when I can without you asking me AFTER every failure. Realname@gmail.com There is all the difference in the world between treating people equally and attempting to make them equal. ― F.A. Hayek Above was in response to this email; Its hard to take them seriously when they do this twice a week.
"The sky is falling." Tiresome at best, but expected from just about any special interest group. One of the things that gets me is the life membership bit. When everyone is a life member, the annual income stream drops to zero and make financial planning totally dependent on the never ending crying for money.
Yes, but of course once we have life members we can still upwell that, endowment, benefactor, etc, etc... I love the mission just not loving the team lately, it seems that they are more worried about raising money than solving problems, maybe they've been infiltrated!
How much do's a supreme court challenge cost.. I know this is a small part of what they are up to and while reading your letter I was struck with a thought that they may be collecting as much cash before it all falls apart on them.. They may have their own preps to do..
Have been a member and then life member for years and the only money I send in anymore is for the calendar each December. All other begging for money gets deleted or thrown away.
I like the magazine, especially the armed citizen fighting back, section. But the constant "send me money" drove me away. I will read it (if I can find it) while waiting for a doctor, but that is about it, anymore. The constant whining was just too much.
I quite the NRA Years ago, when they dropped Neal Knox.... Never have seen a reason top go Back.... They keep sending me a NR Mag, each month, so I guess it isn't all bad....
I have joined GOA over the past year and trout unlimited. All fund raising companies are in the interest of fund raising. I do think they got the picture on never selling out again. But, the opposing side has the media and jackasses like this: Harvey Weinstein Plans NRA Movie With Meryl Streep But the this fat bastard has sure profited from them: 7 super-violent Harvey Weinstein movies that glorify guns | WashingtonExaminer.com
Ole Harvey also said that if the nazi's where rounding his people up he would find a gun some place.. Didn't work so well for his people before.. Thats why theres Jews for the second amendment..
It's not the only reason but it's a big part of it. While they have the potential to "do good", they spend too much time being conciliatory and "building bridges". They've compromised one too many times for me.
Agree wholeheartedly with you, Finster. Unfortunately, it's highly likely that Mr. Cox will never actually read what you wrote. Also, unfortunately, that seems to be the name of the game, these days, for fund raising. Like when my father passed away, my mother wrote checks to a few organizations that had helped out during his home hospice care, that she wanted to thank. Just about every one of them kept writing her for more money, and we joked about how they were using what they'd already received, to mail her for more funding! Me, I just look at the letters, then shred them. They got my money for my lifetime membership, let them make do with that.
My thoughts that they compromised one to many times back in 1968.. They have stood up on some court cases, but they play the odds to make sure they are winable.
I have been a member for a long time and I agree it has got to the point of every other day they are asking for money. If they would use the funds that they are wasting on the cost of all these flyers and junk mail on the project they are requesting more funds for, I think the problem for a lot of the funds needed would be solved.
Agree, a few weeks ago I got a call on my cell (which never rings except my kids) from some organization, the guy explains they take disabled veterans and help them fund hunts.. "I said great! Where we going and when?". He says "what do you mean?" I tell him I'm a disabled veteran and would love to go hunting again, they just need to tell me where and when. He continues to explain that he is in the "fund raising department" and he's not sure how to contact the "benifits people", I said he should have them call me and I'll be happy to talk to them... Still no contact.
I was an NRA member for many years but have since quit in disgust. They are more politician than activist. They compromise and make back door deals just like any politician. I have said that when the government tries to push us two steps closer to gun confiscation you can count on the NRA to fight tooth and nail to get us only one step closer. Gun Owners of America get my greenbacks now, never another penny to NRA.
The NRA has learned the #1 rule in politics. Fixed issues don't a good living make... Channeled some Yoda there. People just seem to take what little green aliens say more seriously. My apologies. And like all other big name lobbies they've mastered the art of profiting mightily from the status quo. You'll get more utility from ever dollar bill you use to start a fire in your fireplace/stove/camp than you'll get from any lobby. Guaranteed. And I don't make guarantees lightly!
And yet, What is the true goals? The progressive republicans have been pulling it over peoples eyes for some time.. Why not an organization such as the NRA having been taken over by the progressives.. They could do just enough to pull precious resources from the panicky sheep.. And then throw an expensive party to celebrate the gullibility of the masses.. Or are we just being manipulated to turn on the NRA??
Yup, just joined GOA today. I feel a little better about myself today. I'm trashing my NRA recruiting materials, Ill keep my lifetime membership and the magazine subscription will continue forever, and I will maintain my instructor ratings but thats it, they will no longer get any $ from me! (even if it does only have one line through the S )
