"The Phase" is a generic term used by the program production team to describe an out of body experience, or OOB(E).
Typically, an OOB can be induced with meditation. There are a lot of unexplained 'little nasties' to expect if you are among the uninitiated.

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

I've been on a Star Trek binge for months now. Finished all episodes of TNG and DS9, halfway through VOY and ENT now.

    RAMBLING NARRATIVE ALERT
When I was in seventh grade, there was a boy at my school who shot himself. This was big news for a lot of reasons, back then upper class twelve year old white boys did not normally blow their heads off on purpose. News teams and camera crews were all over our school the next few days, and I learned two important lessons from watching that circus.

    1. Lots of kids who were interviewed were calm or even disinterested in what had happened. (A few even told the reporters good riddance) The sad truth was that the kid who killed himself was a horrible bully and no one liked him. Our school had a special program for special needs kids, and this little bastard was always in trouble for harassing them... shoving wheelchairs over, even beating up one Downs Syndrome kid. The opinion of most of us was that the school was a better place without him. But when the news came on that evening, the kids who were featured were the hysterical ones, the ones crying and wailing about how much they'd miss him. Instead of reporting on a severely troubled kid who killed himself, they made it sound like this wonderful person had killed himself for no reason, and OMG OMG what is happening to our children we must get therapists in the schools and why didn't his father have that gun locked up and blah blah blah. I learned then that the news lies.

    2. I knew the three kids that wound up on TV. They hated that kid as much as any of us... but they were the kind of popular kids who somehow manage to make everything about themselves. They saw it as an opportunity to get attention and they jumped on it, wailing about how he was their bestest friend ever and how his death was making them really sad and they didn't know if they could go on now that he was gone. Naturally everyone who didn't know the truth believed it, and felt sorry for the poor darlings.

It's like Honey Boo Boo and Jersey Shore and Next and Cribs and yes Duck Dynasty. The media likes to portray the people as objects for ridicule and scorn. Women are all cheap nasty whores always fighting with each other over a man. People in the flyover states are all hopelessly unstylish, uneducated, and hilarious to watch. Duck Dynasty kinda backfired on them... I'm sure they thought everyone would laugh at the bearded clan. Sorta like Daryl Dixon on Walking Dead, they never expected their disposable character to become some sort of cult hero.

So yeah, when I see those "Man On The Street" interviews showing people giving answers that make the rest of us facepalm, I know that for each one they got, likely ten others ended up on the cutting room floor because the people didn't come off like the stupid Americans they want us to look like believe we really are.

Just like the Pepsi-Challege I took (twice) rigged 6 ways from Sunday, and if you pick their product(surprise) they TELL you what to say for the recording. Complete "caca de toro". Several of us played challenge saboteurs after that for about 4 hours.

I "failed" the Pepsi challenge every time I took it (probably a couple dozen as they were in a number of stores in our area) and they couldn't get me away from the table fast enough. I was just a kid and they didn't want me anywhere near their booth after I chose Coke (and in a couple of instances where they were being rude said something to the affect of "What was that other crap?!?!")
