I actually did that for a while. It worked great for a couple of years. Then the battery gave out and I never replaced it. My wife & I were discussing investing in another one today after the great smelly mishap.

Won a $100 gift card at the company holiday party picked up 75 pounds of rice, 35 pounds of beans ect and ordered some oxygen absorbers. Couple bottles of Hoppes #9 bore cleaner and 2 cans of Break-free CLP (reminded on another thread to check). Too bad I did not get the $500 prize :(

Put up more ammo, organizing the loader room, put up next years garden seeds, Have lots of first aid stuff in a 5 gal bucket, New sling on new hunting rifle, and picked up more brass-1K+ of 223 and some more 25-06. Have a 4-5' walkway through the room and working on clearing it back to the cabinets---what a mess. Stuff sure can accumulate. Next is organizing the ammo cabinet.

    A tire:)

I bought a new set of tires a few weeks back and they went on sale Thursday %#@*&%.....
But they have a price match guarantee but of course they were trying to hem and haw and weasel out of it for 30 minutes or so until I proposed that they give me 1 more tire which on sale was about $20 less than the cash difference on the price guarantee they would have to refund. They agreed so I ran home and returned with a rim and they mounted it, tried to charge me for the mounting and balance but got out of that.
So I have a new full set of tires and 2 matched spares...

I am glad I have the stash of 22lr that I do have, but sad that I don't have the 50,000 to 100,000 rds of 22lr I feel would be appropriate for long tern security. I would buy all I could get my hands on at $30 a brick (500 rds) or less $. Too bad I can't find any at a reasonable price. ........ Most all that I do have was bought at 3.6 to 4 cents per round.

    This week I added
330 gallons to my water storage.
    2 more bags charcoal
    4 bottles lighter fluid
2 12 packs of canning jars
2 more boxes canning lids and rings

I once had a freezer go south. The only thing I'd ever put in it was green goat hides waiting to be tanned, and it'd been six or so months since I'd been out to check on it. The room it was in was in the back of the house, no heat or a/c, and I never had any cause to go in there other than to throw more hides into the freezer. I'd accumulated 30 or so when I finally got around to tanning time. I opened the freezer, and because my sense of smell is absolute shite smelled nothing until I was leaning into it and pulling out a hefty sack full of rotted hides. Took everything I had not to toss my cookies into the freezer with the rotted hides.

That wasn't the worst part though. Where it was located meant I had to muscle that beast through six narrow doorways and four very tight turns that would require it being upended a few times in order to get it to a door to the outside. No chance I could do it by myself. I lived alone and once word got out about what was in that thing, NO ONE would help me move it. I wasn't about to cut through the wall to get it out, so I ended up duct taping it shut, shutting the door, and pretending it didn't exist. When I sold the property, the appliances went with it... including the freezer.

That is so sad it's funny. Sorry to laugh at your expense. I have two or three thoughts. #1 you really have some sad excuse neighbors! #2 Are you sure you didn't sell the house just to be rid of the freezer problem? #3 Had I been one of your neighbors, I would have helped. ..... the crappy neighbor thing in hindsight was probably plenty of reason to move.

The stories I could tell about that place would fill a novel. Three layers of carpet installed with double headed nails, snakes in the walls, Mexican wannabe bruja trying to curse me for not hiring him to mow the front yard, two tornadoes, grocery sack tile in the kitchen, Houdini goats, heater only worked in the summer, neighbor's dog ate through garage wall to get to my in season Border Collie, rats ate brand new wiring... that place made Coleridge's albatross look like a candy necklace dipped in chocolate. When my husband proposed, it came with a condition. I had to get rid of it and go house hunting with him, because he said he'd rather eat broken glass and gargle with salt water than spend another hour in it. Easiest yes I ever gave. :D

And with rare exception, my experience with neighbors has been equally entertaining.

Looks like we'll be cooking and canning four turkeys before Christmas. Gonna save up the bones and after the last bird is done make a couple gallons of stock and can that too. [coo]
