Got a grocery bag FULL of various cut mints for free(from a friend's leftovers that didn't sell at farmer's market) that I started drying as soon as I got home. There was a couple bunches of lemon balm in there too. Also picked up some cukes for free I wanna try pickling.

I need one of those, myself. As secure storage on my hunting property. I'm having a small problem with thieves.

Outfitted one of the closets with 12"x19" wire shelves (the sides of a small closet) for food storage. Had the daughter help, taught her a little about power tools, a level, determining where to drill the holes, etc.

Teach 'em young about tools and DIY. As a kid, I had no idea we were poor. I thought everyone did their own plumbing electrical , carpentry, and drywall. I learned how to solder joints at 6.

Wife got a deal on Kiddie Fire Extinguishers at work. Picked up 5 2.5lb "kitchen size" units for ten bucks each from a vendor at her employer's. Three for the house & one for each vehicle.

Where did you find the ammo?

Fall City gun shop which I run past often. They had cases of a lot of different calibers.... Even a good pile of .22 LR.
Are you still having trouble down in your AO getting ammo?
Federal Way Discount Guns has a great supply, a little closer to you. My other stop has been West Coast Armory in Issaquah, with pallets of ammo some weeks.

If you do not already have one, invest in a saw-set for it .

I thought I was done but noticed I can get 3 more face cord of wood into one of the barns. So that will make 33 face cord. If we don't burn it all this season, then I'll have a jump on the next.

I have my priorities straight. I picked up a case of my favorite assorted wines, a case of fine German beer, and lots of pure maple goodies.

If I were the enemy, I would strike in the winter, on holidays. This is why, every year around this time, no matter what is going on in the world, I go to defcon one. So far, the luck of the Irish has kicked in and I breathe a sigh of relief for a little more time granted. I also realized long ago, that if I were merely just paranoid, I would be a pathetic creature. Thankfully, there are people like George Bush (+2) and Barry Soetoro to remind me of the fact that my cautious nature is justified.

Be well. Give thanks to those you love. [winkthumb]

Picked one and a half bushels of apples this morning. (Corts and Macoun's) The Mrs is making applesauce and we'll be canning it by the pint this afternoon. The house smells wonderfull right now ! Every time I get to sit down with a bowl of warm cinnamony applesauce I feel like I'm five years old sitting in Nana's kitchen eatin' applesauce.
