Hi Ya'll, I'm new to this forum so please bare with me as I get to know my way around and make some friends and enemies. Currently I'm prepping my garden space close to Vancouver BC Canada for the 2013 season by spreading 1/2 composted wood chips everywhere and gathering "stuff". Many beers have already been slaughtered to clear a path to food freedom for my family. I will post drinking garden videos in this thread as time goes by. I love the Grinder garden vids! Plenty of taters for one and all! Great to see you posting here old friend.
My kale was attacked by bugs also. Never saw a bug on the leaves just lots of holes. Any idea what was attacking your kale?
Slugs....i tried bait but tbh i think it made it worse. Chewed bug holes I'm not sure aboot...i hit some with soap water and it helped a bit but it has been best summer ever for sun, kale, broc bolted in bags I think due to soil being too warm. Lesson learned.
Ya some - but mostly just vac-seal bag freezer. I'm inches away from buying a proper pressure canner for meat.....have aboot 100x quart mason jars needing to be sterilized and filled with "stuff".
I have had the best broccoli crop and am going to plant double next year. I did have an issue with cabbage loopers but I picked them off and squished them. I finally had a pea crop because I put them in pots on the porch and they got 1/2 sun, 1/2 shade. I am already planning what to planet next year. I am trying to sprout garlic so I can get it in this Fall.
Salt, salt melts slugs. I think kale would be safe if you sprinkled on salt. Someone was telling me to move my kale near the wild area so the pests will go there instead of on my crop. I don't know if that would work.
Take out slugs with beer. they are attracted to it, get drunk, and die. Worked every time I have used it. Contrary to common opinion, beer is not human specific. Pour it in a shallow pan like a Frisbee, they crawl in, they don't crawl out.
