Saudi suspect under guard at hospital Authorities ID a suspect in marathon bombings - he is being guarded in Boston hospital - NYPOST.com
Will Obama call this terrorism or make up some other name for it like the guy who bombed the social security office?
ok, so NY Post is saying 23 dead while everyone else is still at 2? Yes this is terrorism, regardless of what the idiot in charge says!
Cell phone service shut off in Boston area. Allegedly due to suspicion the devices were detonated via cell signal. @BTPost Would the Nextel iDEN phones still work in that situation?
2 dead. 23 wounded. 3 ied's went off. Pd found two more and believe there are more in the area. Locals asked to stay inside
I see : 12 dead, nearly 50 injured after 2 explosions rock Boston Marathon, suspect identified and being guarded in hospital http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/two_explosions_at_boston_marathon_iMR0LCkcwASg0RQfVsH1yI?utm_source=SFnewyorkpost&utm_medium=SFnewyorkpost
Post has updated, when I went to the link originally it said 23 dead and 50 injured. Yet no one else is saying anything about a suspect?
Boston seems to me to be an unusual target for foreign terrorism. The target itself strikes me as more of a target for homegrown groups. Most foreigners (except for the Irish perhaps) don't immediately think "Boston." They typically think "New York", "D.C.", "L.A." Americans hear "Boston Marathon" and think "large crowds." Most foreigners wouldn't necessarily make that connection. I would venture that if indeed it proves out that the actors are Islamic Militants, I would assume that one or more of the team are thoroughly "Americanized," perhaps someone who had spent years here on a student visa, perhaps even studying at a university near Boston. Emplaced devices also don't immediately make me think Islamic Militants. They seem to prefer suicide attacks. Multiple devices typically speaks of a relatively large, established organization; not the work of a lone crazy. From the TV footage, the initial explosion seemed to do relatively little damage, possibly due to its placement. Perhaps a sophisticated device, but poorly placed and detonated. Much of the explosive force appears to have gone to the rear of the device, not toward the runners. Were it placed along the building wall, all of the force would have gone toward the spectators and runners. The bombers could have even picked up some secondary shrapnel from the facing of the building, and done even more damage.
@Silversnake, as I understand it, they shut down cell service by shutting down the towers. The Nextel phones as direct-connect, and no service, act as walki-talkies, and do not use a tower. with service they would, but as we use them, they should still function. (independent of service)
Okay, I am sold on the iDEN phone idea because of this. What models should I get? (I have ebay pulled up now) Nevermind, looks like i355's with chargers.
