So if the killings start up again it will just be "copycat killers" and not the LAPD bungling another one?!?

Yea you are correct. I just noticed the word 'confirmed' is spelled incorrectly in the screenshot...

or they used these commonly referred to as "burners" in police slang.

Negative. Those are NOT what they used.

The media is BIG on reporting about that "single gunshot", as nearly every story mentions it, but they each surprisingly lack ANY mention of police deploying smoke grenades, but early reports did specify it happened. Now, they are claiming Dorner, or somebody reported to look like Dorner deployed a smoke grenade in an attempt to escape but failed and had to return to the cabin. Again, discrepancies in the stories with all of them repeating the single shot rhetoric.

Cause of cabin fire fuels debate on Christopher Dorner standoff

"Ok, we're gonna go forward with the plan, with the burn ... like we talked about."

"Seven burners deployed and we have a fire."

"Copy. Seven burners deployed and we have a fire."
These purported police commands come from 5 minutes and 17 seconds of audio allegedly recorded off law enforcement radios during Tuesday’s tense standoff between SWAT officers and suspected serial killer Christopher Dorner.
The recording, posted to YouTube, has fueled speculation that authorities may have purposely started the fire to either kill Dorner or force him to surrender.
On Wednesday, law enforcement sources confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that officers did throw incendiary tear gas canisters into the mountain cabin before it caught fire. According to the Times:
SWAT officers surrounding the cabin were under a "constant barrage of gunfire," one source said. “He put himself in that position. There weren’t a lot of options.” Hoping to end the standoff, law enforcement authorities first lobbed "traditional" tear gas into the cabin. When that did not work, they opted to use CS gas canisters, which are known in law enforcement parlance as incendiary tear gas. These canisters have significantly more chance of starting a fire. This gas can cause humans to have burning eyes and start to feel as if they are being starved for oxygen. It is often used to drive barricaded individuals out.
Dorner, a disgruntled ex-LAPD officer accused of killing four people in the past week, never emerged from the charred cabin near Big Bear Lake, Calif.
The coroner’s office is studying the remains of a burned body found in the basement, but an anonymous official told The Associated Press that a wallet and personal items, including a California driver's license issued to Christopher Dorner, were recovered.
An exact cause of death for the body has not been revealed. On the YouTube audio, an unidentified voice says, “It sounds like one shot fired from inside the residence” about the time a police demolition vehicle was tearing down the cabin’s walls and the house became inflamed.
“We have fire in the front. He might come out the back,” a voice says on the YouTube recording.
"Fire doing quite well. I'm going to let it go," a law enforcement officer also said, according to a Yahoo News reporter also monitoring the San Bernardino sheriff’s radio traffic.
A smart move, S.W.A.T. Magazine editor Denny Hansen told Yahoo News.
“You really can’t send firemen up there if the subject is still alive and may shoot them,” said Hansen, himself a former tactical officer. “They may have believed that he started the fire as a diversionary tactic to escape.”
Veteran police consultant Chuck Drago told Yahoo News that he interprets the officers’ discussion of “burners” to be the tear gas canisters that were used.
“They are not meant to cause fire, but they can,” he said. “Sometimes you have a lot of options at your disposal, and sometimes you're limited.”
With nightfall approaching and Dorner having already vowed in an online manifesto to seek revenge by unleashing "unconventional and asymmetrical warfare," Drago said the officers must have decided that the cabin catching fire was worth the risk to accomplish their mission.
“They had to move pretty quickly in this situation,” he said.
Hansen scoffs at anyone who thinks otherwise.
“I’ve already heard some people say, ‘Well, they burned him alive without a trial,’” Hansen said. “There are always going to be conspiracy theories.”

Like I said earlier, how did they know there were not any other people in the cabin? And why is the media not asking them?

    I just don't get this.

No thermal imaging? No snooper scopes? No laser mikes aimed at windows? No real effort to know for sure.

No windows to aim the Laser Mics at.... Those were shot out, first Thing... Thermal imaging goes out the non-existent window, when they started chucking in the Tear Gas Canisters.... Not a lot of practical Planning, they just wanted to get PAYBACK, HOWEVER THEY COULD... And that was evident from their Comms...

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

He sure had a lot of wallets and driver's licenses. First they find one by the Mexican border, and now another one in the cabin. And each one full of ID. I'm doing good to keep track of one set.

I am not sure it was payback they were going after. This guy by his own words and actions was a direct threat to their families.

Having said that, their families are not more important than mine or yours, and no one gets to be judge, jury and executioner because they are afraid for their families.

Laser mics work by reading vibrations off of any flat surface. A tag of tape on a window is preferred, but a wall will do. And last I checked, snooper scopes were standard issue for swat teams. Didn't they have one to loan? As for the recorded transmissions, what I heard sounded premeditated. However, could it have been faked, like the photoshopped female body in the ashes?(report) Have these transmissions been authenticated?

Authenticated by whom? They were recorded on the local Mutual Assistance Channel, as I understand it, as this was the interagency Mutual Assistance Frequency, that most of the different agencies would have programmed into their Comms Units.

Unless you are on the payroll of the LAPD apparently. Have you not been paying attention? *ducks*

I would want justice if I were Dorner but what he was doing wasn't justice, it was terrorism. Dorner was planning on being Judge, Jury and Executioner if he got the chance and had crossed the line, and not the Thin Blue Line either. He felt justified but that didn't mean it was. Most criminals feel justified, at least to a certain extent and at least at the time they decide to commit the crime but that doesn't mean they were justified, which is why an actual Jury almost invariably finds them guilty and they go to jail.

Whether or not this was payback or not, it certainly felt like the response by the LAPD was...personal. They don't respond to all threats like they did to this one. Why? This guy can't be the first one to have threatened their families. They have to get death threats on an almost daily basis. It's the freakin' LAPD for crying out loud! I'm pretty sure that a lot of hairy crap goes down in LA. Did he actually know something? Was this threat more serious? Was it because it was really going to make them look bad or was already making them look bad? Did his "manifesto" contain more than a grain of truth and now it's out there and people are already asking questions like 'Yeah, why is the cop who kicked Rodney King in the head a Captain now'?

God forbid it wasn't Dorner in that cabin and just some other big black guy. This could get "messy".

    ETA:
I'm not judging Dorner one way or the other by the way. I honestly haven't made my mind up 100%. I've never lived in CA and have had no dealings with LAPD but have never heard anything but negative things about them from people who have. That said, I have a hard time condoning what Dorner is accused of doing and planned on doing per his "manifesto"...most versions of it at least.
