An Executive Order is a wartime measure. The very first was written by Lincoln.

Emergency Powers Statutes, Senate Report SR 93-549, November 19, 1973

You should read the entirety of the Senate Report 93-549 I linked above. I always try to type what I mean, as I always mean what I say. I am not making this up, it's not theory or opinion, it's fact.

For further inquiry, try the following: United States Congressional Record March 17, 1993 Vol. #33, page H-1303 -link-

    Who said the following:

    - We demand that the State shall make it its primary duty to provide a livelihood for its citizens.
    - The abolition of incomes unearned by work.
    - The breaking of the slavery of interest
    - Personal enrichment from war must be regarded as a crime against the nation. We demand therefore the ruthless confiscation of all war profits.
    - We demand the nationalization of all businesses which have been formed into corporations (trusts).
    - We demand profit-sharing in large industrial enterprises.
    - We demand the extensive development of insurance for old age.
    - We demand the passing of a law for the expropriation of land for communal purposes without compensation
    - The State must consider a thorough reconstruction of our national system of education. The aim of the school must be to give the pupil, beginning with the first sign of intelligence, a grasp of the nation of the State (through the study of civic affairs).
    - The State must ensure that the nation's health standards are raised by protecting mothers and infants, by prohibiting child labor.
    - We demand the abolition of the mercenary army and the foundation of a people's army.
    - The publishing of papers which are not conducive to the national welfare must be forbidden.
    - Our nation can achieve permanent health only from within on the basis of the principle: The common interest before self-interest.
    - To put the whole of this program into effect, we demand the creation of a strong central state power

Ha! Jewish only in the sense that he sprouted from a Jewish vagina. I believe he belongs to the group of self-loathing Jews--along with David Axelrod, Dan Shapiro, Mara Rudman, and Dennis Ross.

Elitist liberalism is stronger than religion, as is the Chicago political mafia.

I wouldn't tolerate a requirement to keep them in a safe.

Go re- read No 8. The line calls for a review of safety standards on safes and locks, nowhere does it state this is to be a requirement.

Firearms can be expensive, I have several thousand invested in a couple rifles (each) and premium handguns can cost 2-3 K each.

I ain't leaving them in a desk drawer or a closet shelf. [eek3]

As for thse who believe "gun control ain't happenin'", you'd better think again. Mid term elections are coming up. We are one election away from old school Soviet style one party rule.

The "Blue Dawgs" are fewer and fewer every day and everybody does the "play along to get along" thing in DC. Activisn and education need to be the tip of the spear (sorry for the cliche) in the fight to retain all of our liberties.

Revolutions and civil wars begin with opression of rights and "gun control", anyone who thinks we are not in the beginning stages of civil war / revolution is wilfully ignorant.

The only difference is nobody's shooting yet

Oh, anybody see the new video game that lets you kill the president of the NRA?

In 1999, State Senator Barack Obama voted “present” on a bill that would require adult prosecution for discharging a gun in or near a school.
That legislation came as a response to the tragic Columbine High School shooting that year.
SB 759 provided that anyone 15 years of age or older charged with aggravated battery with a weapon in school or within 1,000 feet of a school would be charged as an adult.
It passed the Illinois State Senate in a 52-1 vote, with 5 members voting present — including Obama.
That vote followed a trend for the young lawmaker, whose controversial votes on crime legislation often raised eyebrows.
A Chicago Tribune editorial even accused Obama of being a “gutless sheep” for missing a vote on crime legislation in late 1999.

RE: #14 --> funneling money to the CDC, which funnels money to an anti-gun propaganda think-tank. Are Drs going to refuse service if you don't give up gun info??

MILLER: Tax dollars for gun control - Washington Times

The directives on gun violence President Obama signed Wednesday were meant to seem harmless. A closer look at the president’s first memorandum reveals it to be a sneaky assault on congressional authority in order to fund gun-control propaganda.
Getting this done has been on the White House “to do” list for some time. In his 2013 budget submission, Mr. Obama deleted the prohibition that has been in effect since 1995 on the use of federal funds to advocate or promote gun control.
Mr. Obama is trying to steamroll the Democratic and Republican majorities that kept the ban intact by labeling the advocacy as research. “While year after year, those who oppose even modest gun-safety measures have threatened to defund scientific or medical research into the causes of gun violence, I will direct the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to go ahead and study the best ways to reduce it,” said Mr. Obama.
Under the terms of the memo, CDC may “sponsor” another entity to conduct the research, which is a handy way of funneling taxpayer cash to sympathetic gun-control groups.
Earlier this week, anti-gun activists, including New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, spent a lot of time at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore discussing how the government-spending prohibition was hampering their plans.
Daniel Webster, director of the Center for Gun Policy and Research at the school, backed the president’s plan. “I agree that the CDC should be free to fund high-quality research into the causes and solutions to gun violence, one of the leading causes of premature mortality in the U.S. that affects not only deaths and injuries, but mental health as well,” he told The Washington Times.
Congress clamped down on the spending after President Clinton used the CDC and National Institutes of Health to create material advancing his theme of treating gun ownership as a public health issue, rather than a constitutional right. Millions in taxpayer funds were blown on junk science, such as $2.6 million used to determine if teenagers who are shot are more likely to have been drinking and carrying a gun. An additional $2 million went to figure out whether moving bars and liquor stores would prevent gun violence in communities.
By calling gun violence a “public health crisis” on Wednesday, Mr. Obama echoed Mr. Clinton’s model. It’s a move that could cost lives, as shifting funding away from fighting disease creates severely misplaced priorities. In 2010, 780,213 Americans died from cardiovascular disease and 574,743 from cancer, compared with 11,078 firearm homicides.
Under the Bush administration, the CDC already conducted a two-year independent study of the laws, including bans on specified firearms or ammunition; gun registration; concealed-weapon carry; and zero-tolerance for firearms in schools. The scientists concluded in 2003 that there was “insufficient evidence to determine the effectiveness of any of the firearms laws reviewed for preventing violence.”
Congress must reassert itself and override this executive action so that more tax dollars aren’t wasted. If Mr. Bloomberg wants more propaganda, he can pay for it out of his own deep pockets.

So, it appears that Holder is wasting no time on the King's decree.

Still no word on Fast & Furious.

Holder begins gun-control push - The Hill's RegWatch

The Justice Department is taking the first steps toward carrying out President Obama’s executive actions on gun control.

Attorney General Eric Holder on Friday released three proposals to strengthen the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which was one of the 23 actions ordered by Obama last week to tackle gun violence.
The proposed regulations would give local law-enforcement agencies access to the gun-sale database that is maintained by the FBI. The rules would also preserve records of denied weapons sales indefinitely.
The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act already requires federal background checks for gun purchases, but not every firearm sale is covered under the law.
Currently, law enforcement agencies cannot perform a NICS check when transferring, returning or selling weapons that have been confiscated, seized or recovered. The new rules would change that, allowing officials to perform a background check on people who receive those weapons to ensure that they are permitted to own a gun.
Obama ordered the rule change in a Jan. 16 memo that called for “rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun."
Holder is also proposing that the NICS hold on to records of denied weapon sales that are more than 10 years old. When the NICS was established, the Justice Department ordered that the records be moved to a storage facility after 10 years, which Holder says is no longer necessary.
"The FBI has therefore determined that for NICS’ own internal business operations, litigation and prosecution purposes, and proper administration of the system, NICS shall retain denied transaction records on site," Holder wrote in a notice to be published in Monday's Federal Register. "The retention of denied transaction information ... will enhance the efficiency and operational capability of the NICS."
The proposed rules would also give Native American tribes access to NICS. Currently, only federal, state, or local agencies can perform the checks, which leaves out “domestic dependent nations” recognized by the United States.
The Justice Department isn’t the only part of the administration that has been asked to take action in response to last month’s school shooting in Newtown, Conn. The president has also ordered the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Education and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to get involved.
One of Obama’s directives was to ensure coverage of mental health treatment in Medicaid and under the healthcare reform law. He also ordered increased training of school staff to help them recognize signs of mental illness.
The CDC, meanwhile, was directed to study the causes of gun violence. The president urged Congress to approve $10 million for the agency to examine whether there are links between shooting sprees and violent entertainment.
Comments on the Justice Department proposals are due by March 28.

Eric Holder Goes Around Congress on Gun Control

According to reports, Attorney General Eric Holder has begun the implementation of three gun control measures related to President Obama's Jan. 16 executive orders.
These deal with information sharing, background checks, and name registries. Holder's action on them appears to be part of a two pronged approach where he pushes certain measures behind the scenes while Congress considers other measures Obama suggested.

The first of these gun control measures would "expand access to information on gun permits to American Indian law enforcement agencies," the second would "allow law enforcement to access the FBI's national criminal database to conduct background checks on people they're transferring weapons to," and the third measure "would authorize the FBI to retain records on denied firearms transactions in a separate database for longer than 10 years."
The last proposal is especially irksome, as it increases the amount of time the government can hold on to information acquired through certain background checks. In this way, it allows the creation of a de facto registry of people who have tried unsuccessfully to buy guns, and it's just common sense that this information could easily be misused.

And this is all made more troubling by the fact that Holder "[concedes] that the impact of [these measures] is unknown at this point," i.e., they may not even work. Therefore, in the end, these various gun control measures may simply be what we have all feared from the start--just another futile exercise in piling more restrictive regulations on law-abiding citizens.
