Multiple answers are allowed. for the type I through IV select only the highest level you have if you have more than one. Just curious if this is a monkey prep or not.
Not really an "issue" when you live where I do.... having a substantial WoodPile, and renewable Energy Sources, come way before Body Armor......
I dont plan on letting anyone get close enough that I will need body armor. *alaskachick still trying to combat cabin fever by remembering all the good parts of living here*
Might be nice to have but if it gets to the point where I need it; things are already in the toilet. Not much you can wear and move in that is rifle rated.
There are plenty of folk who are walking around today, who wouldn't be in the land of the living without wearing body armour. If I have it...I'd wear it when the circumstances warant it. Photos and stories of body armor saving military soldier’s lives : theBRIGADE I have a WWII British pattern paratrooper's helmet....not as good as a kevlar helmet but better than nothing.
The drawback to body armor is how much it weighs. Great for combat; not so good for nature walkers. I know, how much is your life worth? How much can your butt carry is the next question.
I was thinking that there was another poll out there about vast majority of preppers are bugging in. And not looking for a fight necessitating a lot of walking.
I didn't get mine as a prep, I got mine when I picked up a side job bouncing at the local watering hole, lotsa "Modified Gansta Grip" after dark. Haven't needed it yet, but it is on if I ever do. Also sewed trauma plates into the kids book bags, long before CT shootings. Better safe then dead
When buggin' in just a plate carrier and set of plate armor is better than nothing. Throw that over a used vest and you're pretty much GTG. I'm not connected to these guys but have had good experiences with them: Boolitproofme
Hmm, seems that a little less than half of us monkeys (well those that responded) got something. I'm thinking deadeye can wear steel plate when we send him outside the wire to test resolve of OPFOR with a 'Fistful of FRN's
Ok so those of you with experience ..Im a big guy. 6'0" and about 250-260 ( haven't weighed myself in awhile) have a little bit of a gut but chest is bigger any recommendations on a comfortable plate carrier for $250 or less minus the plates?
Im 5'10" and 190 , gut & im overweight !!(all in imperial ) Your going to be good eating , Just kidding Sir,, If you can't walk 5 miles as you are , forget adding weight. For free , WALK IT OFF
None of them are comfortable. I've thought about this issue for a long time, and I'm still thinking about it. I think that I ultimately come down on the side of maneuverability. Body armor slows you down. A lot. If you are normally fast, you become slow. If you are normally slow, you essentially become a stationary target, and I can hit those all day long. I am very much in favor of armoring vehicles and domiciles.
Mine from Shellback Tactical fits a 52"chest. Train with it and after a while you'll be (almost) back to regular speed. Ceramic plates are MUCH lighter than steel. Personally I plan on buggin' in so I keep the molle gear to a minimum; rifle / pistol mags and comm carrier. Sidearm goes on a drop leg rig (SHTF only) normally my 1911 rides OWB.
