It's been a leisurely fall and I've been doing my best to stay out of any gun sights. One ventilation hole is enough for a lifetime. I'm afraid the next one that catches me in the crosshairs might be an elephant gun and I'd be a goner for sure. I've kept my moose version of a walk about confined to the USA. Lots of crazy stuff going on in the world and besides, I really had to stick around to see if my old gun banning buddy, Barack, kept his crown for another few years. If he has anything to do with it, I won't have to worry about getting shot anymore. Heck, I can raid and pillage to my hearts content with no fear. Anyhoo, moose are basically solitary individuals so the walk about suits my temperment quite well. Every now and again I feel the urge to seek out a pretty little moosette but good old VisuTrac's constant referral to my "tick infested hide" has seriously damaged my self esteem. I'm just not feeling that same confidence in my manhood that I've always carried and have avoided the pleasure of female company until I can get a good scrub down and rid myself of these little vermin. While doing some birdwatching, I've also been keeping my eyes out for my fellow monkeys though nary a one has made their way into my camp. I keep a nice warm fire every night so company would be welcomed and the coffee's always hot and a flask of Jack Daniels is never too far out of reach.. Took this photo with my iPhone in a particularly beautiful forest. Now doesn't this entice any of you to hit the road and join me.
" I really had to stick around to see if my old gun banning buddy, Barack, kept his crown for another few years. If he has anything to do with it, I won't have to worry about getting shot anymore." That is enough reason to hunt moose, right there,
Moose season is over, in Alaska so your safe to head this way should you want to... Mort.... Also your horns should be dropping off, any day now.... No fear, they will grow back next fall... Bigger than ever....
Frank and I are thick as thieves but there was an unfortunate incident late one night when I wandered into his camp and startled his "pet" skunk, Mr. Ghrits. I would have shot the little bast**d if I'd had a gun on me but, being unarmed at the time, I just high tailed it out of the area licking my smelly hide and nursing my pride. I'll go back to see Frank soon but he better have that black and white varmint caged or treed or whatever one does with a skunk. Pet or no pet, I won't go through that again. And kellory, I guess it all depends on which end of the barrel your facing. Even though Frank and I are trying to challenge the BATFE, I still don't like looking down the business end of a boom stick.
If I'm gonna visit with you BT, I better be heading out pretty soon. It's a long trip but last time I was there, I had a most enjoyable time. You still living in that same little compound in Excursion Inlet? I think I can find my way back. A little visit with you and AlaskaChick is just what I need.
awalkabout sounds fun, wish I could join you, and there is always a warm fire here if you find yourself North of 49
Funny you should mention that cdnboy66. I've been considering a trek around the country to visit some of our SM members. Thought it might be fun to catch a few of you on your own turf so if you happen to see a pair of manly antlers peeking at you through the window or from behind a bush, don't shoot but you might want to hide your women folk - they can't seem to resist me.
In my neighborhood, peeking through windows WILL get you shot, and not for the antlers. As for the woman, if you can tempt her, she's your's.
Whoa...thanks for the warning kellory. I'll make sure I avoid your neighborhood! Mortimer Adler Moose always takes warning to heart. I've been so many places in my life and time, I've sung a lot of songs, I've made some bad rhymes. I've acted out my life in stages with ten thousand people watching, but being shot at makes always makes me sing the blues.
I'll try to snap a pic so if you get into these woods, you recognize them. as for the women....I have a 13 yr old and a 16 yr old......they are already a little Moose crazy ( thanks to their Grandfather being a New Brunswicker), careful they don't turn you into a large stuffed animal and foist you into the teddy bear collections, and, yes, they have their own hunting licenses
Makin' a list and checkin' it twice..... BT Post and Alaskachick - good kellory - iffy cndboy66 - good cdnboy66 offspring - on the naughty list
Your welcome down here but please keep in mind that the last Christmas Santa came through here the skies lit up like down town Hanoi in '69... I think the state is requiring him to wear a Hunter Orange suit this year....
see....and I thought he was the guy on the right and he was an amazing costumer.....very clever you wily Moose maybe I'm right and the fellow on the left is dressed up as, Mortimer dressed up in costume. Mortimer, if that's you in the middle.....I don't want to know, I'll never be able to look at a moose the same ever again
LOL, made the Madi Gras one time many years ago. Took me two days to sober up before coming home. Going on a wee "walk about" next spring before the gathering. Cal to Wash to Alaska and then back to "God's country"---N.C.---lol. Going to drop in on a few cyber buds along the way.
