Hey guys, I have this thought to possibly make. Im just not sure on how to approach it. So heres the thought. I have a jerky chew container, and I had this thought to make it into a reel, and put everything compact into the can when finished. It could get connected to a stick with possibly zip ties.
Great idea. Also look into Yo-Yo reels. Depending on your state regulations (and in WROL this is null and void) they can be quite handy. Yo Yo Fishing Reel
o dam i thought u had a plan !!! id start with the empty can and some fishing line and hooks n work it from there ... o yea n take pictures of it
I would add the can to a narrow line spool (piggy-back 'em) run (1) thumb turn screw (available at any hardware store) through the back of the tin and through the reel into the stick (pole). keep all fishing bits and pieces in the tin, and enough line on the reel for a trout-line, and a fishing pole. I like this idea as well. i will have to see what the rules are here for them. Yo Yo Fishing Reel
I have actually came up with a plan and am working on it right now. Ill do an instructable once im done.
fishing plans in survival situations dictate conservation of energy. Nets and weirs be your friends. And they can typically catch more than one protein packed morsel at a time!.
In addition to the Yo Yo reels... which I love... Speed hooks are also handy...SPEEDHOOK.COM Home Page Remember that hooks and line will also catch small animals and birds... so don't limit yourself to just what may be in the water... Always pack things that have more than one or two uses... and consider all the possible options... Those Yo Yo's, speed hooks, springy limbs and even a rock tied to a rope over a limb are all great trap and set motor mechanisms to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of your passive efforts... good stuff to learn/practice now... and improve your mental muscle/memory... Remember... your mind alone is the ultimate survival tool... especially if and when you find yourself in a situation where that may be all that you have... :0) (because you didn't actually think all that gear you have and practice with is always going to be there when a "disaster" strikes and you need it most... right? Murphy is alive and well :0) Your mind... Keep it when others are losing theirs, feed it when others are feeding their face and expand it when others are narrowing their view... and you'll do better than most and live/survive well... It's only those that can see the seemingly "invisible"... that can do the seemingly impossible :0) JMHO... Just made up and sent out a couple Yo Yo "Get em" kits for buddies for xmas and saw this thread... fit in a round altoids tin :0)
The Mexicans here use a beer can with the line wrapped around it, they swing the terminal end of it like David and Goliath Sling shot then release and point the end of the can toward the arc of the flight path. It seems to work great.
So do military crank type landlines. As everyone has been skunked fishing. I would tie a few fishing lines to a few overhanging trees and spend the time foraging for whatever else is edible in the area.
