Sure! Just cut whichever way you like and then parboil in lightly salted water until they lose the raw look. Drain well and carefully and lay in single layers on your dryer shelves and dry on the veggie setting until they are absolutely completely dry. When dry, lay out just until cooled and put straight into jars with a tight lid(I use canning jars and lids) You could add an oxygen absorber but I never have. Just don't leave the lid off very long at a time. Hope this helps! The parboiling keeps potatoes from turning dark as they dry.

P.S.... a mandolin cutter really helps with hand fatigue and gives you such perfect even slices every time which helps it all to get dry at the same time.

Today, We did the Chimney Sweep on our two Stove Pipes for the year. Both the Oil Fired Stove, and the Wood Stove, Pipes got a good cleaning, and are set for winter. We also vacuumed out the FirePot in the Oil Stove and declinkerized it, for the next year. Tomorrow the Barge comes with our Winter Food Order, and we have deFrosted two, of our four Freezers, and will load those two back up in the afternoon. Then it is deFrost the third Freezer, and get it restocked. Friday or Saturday, we will pump out our Water Storage Totes, clean the insides, and refill them, while we still have the Summer Water System running. Hope to have everything checked of the Winter Prep List by this time next week. Looks like "Lights out Day" for the Summer Powerhouse will be Sept 30... about two weeks early... this year...Ah Peace & Quiet..... Again.... ...... YMMV.....

Found some red wheat at the superWallymart and bought it out of curiosity. But I have got no way to mill it. What is it good for besides flour? Might try planting it.
We experimented with growing our own food this year . We found that our soil is too poor and our knowledge too scant. No topsoil. And no inate knack for farming, I guess. It must take some skill and luck. Our tomatoes are struggling along and nibbled upon. The bean yield is one bean per 2 beans planted. Everything else died or was harvested by wildlife at night. I figure we could starve easily enough if the super market closes or I don't nail the local racoons. Probably the same ones we were growing chickens dinners for last year.

If this is your first year with gardening, then you are doing well. Find a local county extension office, they may be able to help with your soil. Usually there is no "luck" in farming/gardning, just knowledge. Keep trying, learn something new each year and your garden will continue to grow.

You can sprout the wheat berries.

Yesterday, Momma and I topped off the 4 Freezers, that store our Winters Supply of Food. Everything is here, and put away. We have all the goods required for the next 12 months of living, here, on-site. Last barge, sails from Seattle, this Friday, and will be here on the 6th of September. Lights Out Day is set for September 7th, when we go on Winter Power, and the last of the Cannery folks head south for the winter. Soon it will be Very Quiet, around here..... It is the BEST time of Year..... ......
