so i just bought a hi point .45 acp and i must say i am impressed. there was a barn swallow sitting in a tree around 30-35 yards away and i shot the gun for the first time and on the 3rd round i dropped it. this was in the first 3 shots i have fired from the gun, it is very accurate and i will not talk down on a hipoint.
Ahhh, awful hand as I call it. Its the only way to shoot pistol as far as I am concerned. If you can master that you will be fine elsewhere.
Yes, if you want affordability and "built like an armored truck" --the Hi-Point handguns are solid for the price. As for ergonomics, concealability, functionality, and quite a bit of attention to detail, it falls way short. But, what's important is that it shoots (I suppose). They are made in America, got to give credit where it is due. Will they work pretty much all the time? Yup. For some folks, that's good enough.
I would argue functionality is just fine. conceal-ability - zero chance. I think it makes a 1/2ton pickup into a 3/4 ton ergonomics, fits my hand fine. But yeah, it leaves something be desired. Its not a SigSauer Attention to detail? Meh, its a blow back operated firearm. Considering blow back FA history, this one is doing just fine.
I would argue it's not a wise design for disassembly --try it. I would argue it's tolerances are very poor, making speedy reload under stress difficult at best. I would argue it's got a serious balance issue, making target precision difficult and lots of blow-back making re-acquisition a pain. Detail --not much there. Just a huge, loose chunk of steel and plastic composite. Lots of edges to get caught on clothing, very bulky and no traction on the grip. Works fine, though. To some, that's good enough. Hey, it's functional and may serve as a very good truck gun or survival gun if it's all you have. =)
Kind of like the Kalisnikov , as opposed to a FN-FAL.... One is a NOT a precision piece of machinery, and one IS... they both function....
Yeah kind of. Good example. =) Of course, if the AK in your comparison couldn't be disassembled without a hammer and a punch and it slipped out of your hands and weighed 3 times as much as it does now, it would be an exact match!
Having owned a couple Hi-Points my 2 cents would be that with a little care and tweaking if that is what you can afford they are WAY better than a stick. Some new preppers get overwhelmed at starting out top shelf for all their needs. Start small and work up as the budget, knowledge, and skills allow.Range time with a 2nd tier gun and WWB ammo still gets your skill set moving.
Uh-oh, Sas, you just admitted to killing a non-game species. This could very well be a violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918. If you did, It's a federal offense. You should check your game laws and sssssssshhhhhhhhhhh. Next time make sure it's an invasive species with no closed season or license required before pulling the trigger. Just sayin'
I've had one about 4 years. It is one of the most accurate large caliber handguns that I have ever shot. The reason is the blow back design lets it return to the same position ( in battery) every time without excess motion. However, I had to tweak the feed ramp and bolt face to get it to feed without stove piping every few rounds. It's a big gun for my small hands and I just don't use it as my go to gun.
Hey sasqu down the road you might also want to look at the HI-Point carbine I dont own own one anymore but have in the past and they are fun to shoot, they use the same mag as the pistol. I had the 9mm but I think they make it in the 45ACP. Which I do have to say all Hi-point are a pain to break down and clean and I think that is where alot of people are getting that they jam alot and reason for the jaming is failure to properly clean. That is the biggest reason I sold my carbine is I want something I can break down in the field fix the problem and back in the fight. Which I would take the advise Oldawg was talking about tweaking it and that will take care of a lot of possible problems. Oh and don't let some of the guy's get to you about your choice if you are happy and enjoy shooting it let it rain!! Because sometime when a airplane crashes it's not the plane it's pilot error(LOL) Have fun
