I am looking at this as a primary pistol and wonder if any Monkeys have feed back on this particular weapon and reasons not to purchase or with options of a better solution. I can pick this up for about $500 locally new. Our prep's have 40 cal as a stocked caliber so I prefer to keep it that way. Any info or feedback would be appreciated.

I don't own one, but I rate it right up there with the Springfield XD line, which is about as high as it gets as far as I am concerned. There are some great reviews on it I have seen, and the design is pretty solid. The Glock guys are usually suffering from tunnel vision, so I wouldn't expect too much out of them.

Hey, I resemble that remark!!! lol. Although I prefer the Glocks, my everyday carry is a Kel Tec P-11 only because I can conceal it better.

Come on Brokor don't hate perfection. (LOL)

Y/D I don't own one but have had the pleasure to shoot one nice gun and good shooter, fits the hand well, plus the gun is well balanced. One of our local Depts have just switched over to them and all those guy's seem to be happy. Thats how I was able to shoot one they were sent 2 or 3 to test before they purchased them. I also seen part of a video where they were running it through a torture test and what I seen it held up well. The only problem I have ever had with any S&W is the cost of spare mags but it has got to the point all mags are going through the roof. In my opinion if you like it and it fits you it will make you a good shooting and dependable main weapon. Have fun on the range and burn a few rounds for me.

Don't hate the player. Hate the game. I have owned And carries Glocks for over 20 years and love them. I have used H&K USPs, Springfield XPs and other polymer pistols during that time as well. Smith and Wesson's offering is goo as well. If it works for you and it's within your price range go for it. It will be like any other tool. Practice, practice, practice and you will learn the ins and outs of it. Good luck and stay vigilant in your training.

I'd rather beat a bad guy to death with my 1911 or Browning High Power, than shoot him dead with a plastic pistol.

I have always said what ever works for you. There was recently a red robbery at a bar in Pa where the bar tender tried to shoot the assailant with a Jennings 32. Well it failures to feed so she threw it at him, knocking him out and giving him a two inch laceration on his forehead.......whatever works for you my friend.

    See?

DUDE! EVERYBODY! There's a reason we have a SIGNATURE LINE. I can't believe how many people are doing things the hard way. If you have something to add to every post, place it in your sig line (in your profile). Sooooo annoying!

Everything is wrong with that story. I won't even argue, it's so far off base it's just not worth it.

I think I will pick this one up and throw a few rounds down range for you Alpha. I have been tired of my Taurus which will still remain in hand- God forbid another boating accident. I have shot the SW a couple of times and really liked the feel of it, but wanted some other opinions to be sure. I had also been looking at the Glock but prefer the S&W for a few reasons. Did not intend on getting the pro and anti- Glock crowd going but you always learn from the debate!! Thanks all for the input!!

I have heard the same thing about them. I think anyone looking for a purchase/trade should deffinately get their hands on multiple manufactures to see what fits for their need's. Nothing replaces the shooting experience but knowledge about the pet peaves of other users is good as well. I have shot a lot of handguns but never want to stop asking others their opinion, as there are so many experiences to draw from here on the Monkey.

If you like the S&W better grab it because if you get something else you won't be happy. I made the same mistake a few year back and went with a friends imput on a sub compact 9mm. I was wanting something other than my 45ACP's to carry off duty. Well around six months later, I ended up taking a loss because I just didn't like it. I have always preferred Glock's and after picking up the G26 all is well for me and if I had followed my gut wouldn't have lost a few dollars. I have a friend who likes the XD and I never have put a Glock in his hand he loses range points and same goes for me I shoot an XD I lose range points. It's all in what feels right and what you like to shoot. I tell everyone never cut corners when it comes to your carry weapon because your life could depend on it and never take less than what you want or settle for the other. I know it's a mental thing but if you are not happy with your choice it will and does affect your range preformance.

Broker. Everyone is able to have their own opinion. Would you like to see the reports? How about talk to the witnesses or even the actor?

I felt very little difference after shooting 20 or 30 rounds between the M&P and my XDm (both .40sw) . The M&P is slightly lighter but I like how the XDm fits in my hand better. The guy that had the M&P had three of them - he sold everything and bought HK USP in 9, 40, and 45 because he loved how they work and feel. I could never afford that - and am glad the USP doesn't fit well in my hand.
That being said, I'd check in M&P forums to see what kind of long-term problems they've seen - I've heard there may have been a problem with a batch of them concerning the trigger assembly (most likely fixed but good to know for sure).

I really liked the way the M&P felt and operated. Good note on the M&P forum, forgot to look there as well- thanks.
