I don't care about the choice between Obummer and Romney in the aspect of our daily lives short term. Both are an unfortunate creation of the government run amok, with little choice decided by the few of power we never chose in an open vote. You can have government light or heavy handed, which do you prefer. In my world, I think of it as a delay of game until I can be properly prepared to defend, feed and support freinds and family based on my choice of methods. The sooner it happens the quicker I have to improvise, adapt and overcome the obstacles to my end goal, survival of my family. What I am most conscerned with at this time is the rapid decline in our society, respect for the rule of law based on the US Constitution, and abject failure of the people to control a government run amok looking to enslave our people either in a socialistic or worse society. Glanced at an article today about a refugee family of 12 in Africa(Chad to be specific) and to keep themselves fed, they raided ant hills to get seeds. You do what you gotta do to feed your family. First step to food security is realizing your food does not come from the store.
I watched some show recently where they interviewed a bunch of folks. It was amazing to me that so many could not even begin to describe where their food came from in their shopping cart!!! Makes me wonder how many people can even cook now days and put together a recipe. Let alone how to grow their own meat and veggies!!!

JACKPOT!!! Fire Dept. a few towns over has a huge hall for rentals, bingo, Dept mtgs., etc. A local auctioneer has scored an "in" on bulk lots of non-perisable items not used or returned by grocery stores. All still saleable and usable ( many smaller mom and pop stores buy this way to stock their shelves with name brand products). The auctioneer has rented out the hall for the first tuesday of the month for the next 6 months. I am gonna git my butt over there and stock up just fine!!
It never ceases to amaze me that people will toss out perfectly good stuff for no sensible reason. I am a tightwad and don't toss anything unless it's not serviceable anymore. Like clothes that are too holy even for a nudist colony, or food that's too moldy/rotted even for cockroaches.
You have a great start to being self sufficient. Many people strive to be half way to where you are. Dont toss them clothes, they can be used for rags, wicks, filters, fire starter, shotgun wadding, muzzle loader patches, insulation, applicators, patches to repair other things, first aid supplies, and could prove very valuable for diversions and misinformation.

Oh we've got lots of old clothes for rags. And can also make patchwork quilts/clothes out of them. Might not be 'fashionable' but if it keeps you warm, so what? And when we buy fabric, we get it at senior center gift/craft shop in town. 25cents a yard. Stock varies, since it's all donated, and tends to be left over stuff. Just gotta keep checking til you find something you want.
ANDY, great Idea with the chicken manure fed worm bed which feeds the chickens. Im going to start using some of my Rabbit crap to do the same thing for our chickens.
