Today, my youngest granddaughter turned 14, a milestone in a young woman's life. She is a warrior, fearless, funny, strong, and most important of all, she perserveres when faced with adversity. She is an honor student, class president, captain of both her basketball team and softball team, and the hub of all things social. See a crowd and you will find Miss Hayley in the center, entertaining, negotiating, mediating. Last year, she hit what appeared to be a home run during a softball game but as she rounded 3rd, the ball was thrown to the catcher. She was about half way between 3rd and home when she saw the catcher drop the ball. Miss Hayley took one final leap through the air and landed her whole body on home base, safe. That was the day I dubbed her the Warrior, and I never stop reminding her that she will always be a warrior, the highest praise I can bestow on a woman of any age.
GrandMa needs to make sure this beautiful young Warrior, can handle herself, with the weapons of a Warrior, to complete the package. ..... YMMV....
I don't think Hayley is a Pollyanna I think that familial familiarity with firearms is an heriditary trait. I'm sure the matriarch will ensure that Hayley's education in that regard will not be neglected.
Preparing her for those slick talking young guy's advances is important also. Young ladies face a terrible ordeal to reach adulthood "unscathed". Her spiritual maturity is the most important--being raised in the love and admonition of God will get her through when moma and popa are not around. I prepared my young lady for most but she still got involved with a worthless POS druggie. She fell in love with him and it messed up a lot of things. I nearly shot him and sometimes wish I had. Thankfully she finally saw the light and finished on the Dean's list. The jerk ended up OD'ing a few yrs ago but not before destroying several young futures. Wrap that young lady up with prayers for protection, guidance, and strength. Sounds like she has a tremendous opportunity in life. Keep up the good work.
-06 ditto, prayers are on the way for the 'warrior'. Gotta love kids with GUTS. The never say die attitude. Makes me want to be young again, not lustful thing but the determination and valor, yes, valor of one who does not quit even when the chance of failure is near....slide baby, slide........
One of the things I truly appreciate about this young woman is that she doesn't really care what others think of her, only what she thinks of herself. This gives her the freedom the travel her own path, do funny, goofy things without fear, enjoy success and learn from failure as they come. She's not afraid to challenge what she hears with questions of her own as she has done with more than one teacher. She's not a sheeple and never will be. She is very much like her grandmother and great grandmother before I made sure she read all your comments and she giggled all the way through. Thank you all for your good wishes.
Forgive a grandmother's pride but Miss Hayley just won Athlete of the Year AND Coach's Leadership award!
