I was offered a job with the city in my hometown and my first day was supposed to be today. My old job has already filled my position. Found out this week that the incoming mayor here took a disliking to the idea of me coming to work here, don't know why, maybe because I had a vote for sign in my yard for the other guy. Anyway, he got online and paid for a background check on me, stuck a business card on it from one of the investigators from the county sheriff's department, and went around showing it to people in town, at the cafe, and to the sitting council members who hired me, claiming he got it from the sheriff's dept and that it was mine. I'd heard rumors that he was trashing me around town but it wasn't until my neighbor called me on Wed to say he caught her on the sidewalk in front of city hall to show it to her that I realized the extent of it. She told me it showed I had pending felony convictions, burglary convictions, even jail time. I don't know who's report he got, but it ain't mine. I've already passed two state and federal background checks this year alone. I called him and he pretended he had no clue what I was talking about. Denied everything. Said he was just a "concerned citizen with no authority" and blah blah blah. I called the county sheriff's office and they flipped out, said they would never have given him such a thing. They reamed him out. He tried to deny it all but finally realized they weren't buying it. Now he's running around saying oh it was just a misunderstanding. I turned in a thanks for the job but no thanks letter to the city council, explaining what was going on and that I could not work directly under a man who would stoop to this level. If things change, please give me a call. He'll be sworn in at a council meeting on Monday. Some of the people he lied to will be at the open forum part to tell what he did. If he's smart he'll resign on the spot, but no one has ever accused him of being smart. Meanwhile, I'm unemployed in one of the crappiest job markets I've ever seen. Normally I don't drink but today I am makin an exception.
Yup....then call the local newspaper and tv to come nd ruin his world. I bet he has a list of pissed off bitches his wife doesn't know about
Right now I'm taking the high road. My attorney has sent him a STFU letter and demanded a written apology that will be printed in the local paper. If he fails to comply, he'll be sued into the ground for libel. Of course, libel suits are kind of a joke when the person you're suing lives in a busted up singlewide. At least I have the po po backing me on this. He made a mistake using their names.
He put you on the unemployed list - do the same for him. Sounds like you can't much money out of the dirtbag, but you can cause him some grief. I'd become his WORST nightmare.......
I would definitely make a showing at the swearing-in...to include letting the council know that their new "boss" is being sued, and they may be drawn into the investigation. BTW, in addition to libel, defamation of character should be included.
When you do get to doing a tap dance on this moron with your stilletos...wear the red ones...and don't forget to make a video clip for us to see. The guy mustn't be very bright getting his own Sherrisf's Department offside. They have ways of making tinpot mayors looking rediculous...if only by failing to protect the mayor from his own foolishness. I wish you good luck with your job hunting and with your sorting out the mayor elect.
I thought the economy was booming in Texas, is it just the big cities that are doing well? Anyway, best wishes for your speedy re=employment.
Hmmm... file federal charges of misuse of federal law enforcement files.... it becomes federal... say it with a lisp and it becomes a hate crime....
I'd obtain a bag of some Mexican seeds, and toss them in the bushes. Then about three months later make an confidential payphone call to crime line/stoppers/the popo. I've also seen fudge coated doggie doo, wrapped in fancy foil, and a Whitman Sampler carefully unwrapped, and rewrapped. It was then left on a door step to be found later by the unsuspecting. I'm not sayin,I'm jus sayin. Matt
I would go after him hard, but keep looking elsewhere for a job. The market in East Texas seems to be picking up.
The economy in the bigger cities is great. However, once you get into the panhandle and west Texas, you find that the towns tend to be about 30 miles apart, separated by fields of nothing in between and jobs are spaced almost as far apart. I was working in a town population 400, and I live in one population 1000. It's a 45 minute drive to a 150,000 city, which may be where I have to head to. I have water and wastewater operator licenses so I could probably get on in the treatment plants over there. It just really blows because I'd been wanting to work here for 2 years and the chance came and I got it, and then some idiot had to eff it all up for me. I can't imagine working under such a lying coward for the next 2 years.
If you ever come up to MD, I can get you in as a centrifuge operator in a 16 mgd plant. Always hiring, apperantly nobody realizes dewatering is the smelliest part of an already stinking job site. oh well, I love it, and nobody ever steals my chili at work
He needs to be put in his place. Don't go easy because of his intelligence level. That's one of the things wrong with society. Stupid people are rewarded and smart people are hindered and dragged down. Good luck with the hunt.
You could post his name and the number to his office and we could make about 189 calls a day calling for his hide.
As entertaining as that would be, right now all you'd get at City Hall is a part time billing clerk who is freaking out because she has no idea how to run the joint and is stuck with it thanks to his meddling. Plus, little towns like this, mayors and council members aren't paid so they don't usually hang out at the office. Appreciate the offer though.
