I recently had some people come to the door ( ones I did not know) that were "invited" by my current roommate....He brought them right on in...then he played the 3rd grade "show and tell" scenario.... The roommate is one of necessity, as my place is right next door and crammed full to the ceiling...with all kinds of gear and equipment and supplies....In fact now this place has become the place for the "overflow". It is getting awfully crowded in here now...Enough to fill a 28 ft U-haul! So, a long story short...the rooomy decided to have some friends over and for all the world to see, there are all sorts of things that should not be seen, much less shown to anyone not in the "fold" as it were.... Questions were asked and I refused to even acknowledge them....It was not a good time for all concerned....I don't know one of these people! Now this is NOT my home, it is the roomies....however, he blew all OPSEC right out the window! Then came the ususal claptrap.... "Well if things happen to go bad, we know here we are coming"! Can we also bring our friends and family? YIKES! My answer was short and to the point: "I am leaving here soon with all of this and going to my land. far far away...." He tells them exactly where my land is located, and that I have enough land for at least 300 people! I guess he was trying to impress his friends and all that, but the damage was done at that point....Nope, he was not done! He drags out the rifles and shotguns and handguns and shows them where all the ammo is stored( currently) in the house! What a babboon! He did NOT understand what he did wrong and that the people he brought were employees from his work, where the turn over is around 2 per month! Most fired for theft! When I had the opportunity to ask him what the heck he was thinking, he gets all huffy, goes to his room, turns up the tv full blast and closes his door! End of conversation.....he doesn't like confrontation....I asked him IF he underatnds why this place has bars on the windows already! That was due to being burglarized by his own brother! (That alone cost him a $600 digital camera, a $300 film camera and several lenses, plus a 9mm Taurus handgun....) His brother got 7 years.... Some people will just never learn! Now I am trying to get things moved into my place so I know it's safe....!
Well, here I go again. Dragonfly, Once upon a time I had compassion, and felt sorry for you. I was amazed that one person on the face of this earth could have such bad luck. My position now is, I am just sitting here shaking my head in disbelief. Friend, I wish you good luck and hope you manage to figure it out. Other than that, and this will amaze many here at this board, I have nothing else I care to say. Tacmotusn
Wow. Everyone knows I am armed 99% of the time. Many know what kind of weapons I have, and a select few have seen them. No ONE, not even my best friend knows where they are kept. As far as anyone else knows the only weapons even at the house are the ones somewhere on my body.
I use to know where a friend hid some of his weapons. But due to my old age I've forgotten more than I remember. Hell, not even a rubber hose will help me remember where I've squirrelled away my nuts. Saying that, It will be like Christmas or a birthday when my kin find them. So I guess that covers OPSEC for me. Now where did i put my glasses
I'm still figurin' out who to take seriously here but if the OP is factual all's I can say is after 2800+ posts here you ought to know better.
Dragon good to see ya posting again. Only advice I have is get your stuff into a remost storage place that cant be traced as son as possible. Then look for a cheap "cabover" motor home to make yourself a house on wheels perfect for what your trying to do. You can stay at the KOA near your work and no one will know who you are.
Lost mine when i flipped my boat in the basin... Have an old 12 guage and a slingshot left... Good Luck finding my waterlogged BB gun's...
how would you guys reverse something like this situation. Tell everyone your going through hard times and had to sell all your guns? what type of story would you use to spread the word you dont have anything worth while. seems im in a similar situation, self inflicted but not as severe lol
I'd get 2 storage units, and move non-critical stuff to one and critical stuff to the other. When asked where it went, dismissively mention the non-critical one (because you know it will come up). Acting secretively will often just pique someone's curiosity. Keeping firearms in a storage unit makes me wince, but I found a great one locally with awesome security I would use if I had to. And never speak of it again.
They'll check business records and find your weapon storage unit. I had to keep my guns in one back when I was moving - a far too long dragged out affair! I wasaching to get my babies back and secure! I had household stuff piled on top to hide them from a cursory looksee. I do NOT ascribe to the "I lost/sold them all" mindset. I WANT the goobermint to fear me. I am a legally and rightfully armed citizen! When they change that status (as to 'legal') THEN it's time to USE them. They can take them when I am dead. I won't go into the beyond alone......
Dragon, well the beans have been spilled. First, move everything to a very private and hidden location. Second, run a few adds on craigslist offering each "toy" you have for sale at a very inflated price. Then you can say you sold them, but never kept track of to who. Then leave it at that. You definately need a new roomie and for sure a different place to sleep at night. If you stay where you are, sooner or later , one of your un invited new found friends will most likely make a quiet midnight call and relieve you of all your burdens.
Dragonfly....you seem to have that rare ability to hook up with folk who are everything that the three wise monkeys aren't. I think if I ever advertise a room to let or room wanted....I'd be drafting the advertisement to include "...friendless, blind, deaf mutes totally estranged from their family are highly encouraged to apply.." Sure, they may be a little extra effort to accomodate, but your secrets would be much more secure! ; )
I would kick La blowhardbraggerttroomie in da ''jewels...Run his dumbazz off.. Move my ''stuff'' and tell the rest of the future bandit's... Come and get it...If you can get past the buckshot and tannerite... But that's just me...ccc
Your opsec was already compromised as soon as you let your roommate in. The only difference is that THIS time you saw it happen. He or she probably talked about everything a thousand times at work already. Not to be rude, but YOU are to blame for this and should be wiser now.
