Is that mill-stone accessible by any sort of vehicle? If so, I would be willing to trade you a Ruger 10-22 rifle and two bricks of cartridges for it.

That is tin roofing, I believe that I might use some of it in the construction of my tree house; I thank you for pointing that out to me Mr. Ghrit! I might have missed that. Mr. Seacowboys, there is an old logging road that passes within a few hundred yards of the millstone but I believe it would require a large draft animal to drag it to where it is accessible by a motor vehicle. We can discuss the barter arrangements in private messages , as I do not believe in sharing the details of financial transactions in a public forum.
Does anyone know what I should feed my new skunk?

How long does it take them to release their bite? Do you use motor oil or fish oil or cooking oil, is there some specific type of oil required?

Usually just a few minutes... and I have used a 90wt Differential Oil...

I must not be patient enough, I put Vaseline on one and stayed attached for longer than I could stand it so I pulled it off. Is there anything that makes them instantly release? I cannot sit there for minutes watching those nasty little vampires.

Frank Lee, you certainly aren't planning on keeping that skunk, are you? They do just fine on their own scrounging bugs and worms and such. I think they catch mice and small frogs and lizards too. They eat pretty much the same things you do now, come to think of it.

Doesn't work on Eastern ticks either. You're Alaskan ticks are much more cooperative than the lover 48's

Edit - sorry for the out of sequence reply - got a call before adding post

If this is heavy and solid you could use this object as a potter's kickwheel / flywheel if you do start harvesting potting clay

I would be most interested if you send me a drawing giving more detail to that concept, Mr. Chelloveck. I might be able to utilize this where it is presently located and avoid having to devise a means of transiting it over unimproved terrain.
yes, I admit that I was a bit upset over all the trouble I had removing the skunk from my rabbit trap, but he has decided to stay and so far, has shown no further inclination to treat me as a hostile. He actually seems curious about Molly and her babies. She is indifferent to him. I think I will name him Mr. Ghrits, after the nice man that made it possible for me to participate in this wonderful forum. He is a very handsome fellow!
Does anyone know how to trap a wild pig?
    Molly. Mr. ghrits.

Yes, Mr Ghrits is a very handsome man (that is who you were referring to, isn't it?)Are you thinking "trap for dinner" or trap to add to your growing menagerie.

I have never actually had the pleasure of meeting the real Mr. Ghrits, but my skunk is definitely a very handsome fellow!
I am thinking in terms of domesticating a herd of hogs, if I can manage somehow to capture some young breeding stock.
I am thinking about the future and have elicited a promise from Thursday, to have his partners bring a small supply of seeds for vegetables next delivery. I plan to plant guerrilla gardens throughout my fiefdom.

Here is a pretty interesting page on hog trapping: Hog Trap - Detailed Plans
You might think in terms of a giant rabbit gum but using a sturdy corral of some sort rather than a box and the gate should be constructed on strong poles or trees and decide you can construct something similar from available materials.

    "Bong on regardless"

Frank....I hope these links prove useful in helping you to construct a potter's wheel. One of the links has a nifty idea for an ergonomic potter's seat for doing your throwing from. If it is at all practical, it may be worth co locating your wheel either with the source of clay...or with your source of firewood (for kiln firing)....doing so will save a lot of energy and effort in that the raw materials will be close to the place of pottery production.

Leaving the potterry wheel exposed to the elements will definitely shorten the life of the wheel, so consider building a rudimentary structure to protect the wheel from the elements. If you are going to the effort of housing your wheel, you might just as well build an annexe to house yourself.

Having a means of producing quality ceramic products may be a fantastic means of generating income. Who knows...you may be praised or cursed for re-introducing the concept of "capitalism" back to a Post Apocalyptic World! Have you considered producing excellent quality ceramic bongs as an adjunct to Thursday and Company's herbal production and distribution operation??? You may well have an excellent captive market for your ceramic products.

Your next project if you get the pottery wheel off the ground will be to build a kiln, and source glazes.

That is most interesting Mr Chelloveck. I am thinking of something much more simple though, utilizing a spindle spun with lines wrapped around it and operated by the spring tension of a limb maybe. Much like a primitive lathe operated to turn furniture legs and such.

I am in the thralls of building a tree dwelling and have neared completion. I shall complete the finishing touches tomorrow morning and post a pictagraph. The old cottonwood seemed to be the perfect tree, since it is very near the river yet not as visible as most would think. I have determined the best method of minimizing my recent confrontation with the scented end of Mr. Ghrits is to stay busy and productive. My sense of smell has acclimated to the skunk aroma and I no longer notice it, although I am relatively sure anyone I happen to encounter will notice quite easily. Mr. Ghrits allowed me to feed him a bite of bear meat by hand and to scratch his ears. He is really not a bad skunk; I think we just got off to a bad start,

Sleep walking? I do not know? How does one determine if they walk in their sleep? Aren't they asleep?

If you land on your face at the base of the tree, you will have a good clue that you are a sleep walker. Let's hope for the best
