Frank, I understand you desire to avoid other human being in your area, opsec and all, but you must be getting a little lonely as you try to handle all of this on your own. How are you managing to deal with this aspect of your isolation

One way I plan on passing the time and might help Frank with lack of other humans. Would be to wright a diary of his strugles, obstacles and how he over come them and the benifits of the final out come. Lessons learned and write it as if talking to others kind of a Franks how to. I read a article aa few years back and it talked about this and how it would help keep the human mind on track.

Ms. Righthand, just like that song, Sloe Gin, "I'm so damned lonely, I think I could cry..." but it is kind of you ask. I need the companionship I recieve from this forum. I do not take offense at the ones that teae me or try to imagine that I do not exist. After all, if I ain't real, then what are they mad at? But I digress; yes, I am alone and sometimes, I am frightened because I do not know what tomorrow may bring. I can't even predict the weather. I would love companionship, even a dog. I am a perfectly healthy male with all the normal desires and I haven't screwed anyone since I quit lawyering....(lawyer joke, I hope I didn't offend anyone?)I have had three serious girlfriends in the past and any one of them will tell you that I really want to be hetrosexual.

I'm also sure that your more primal needs haven't been forefront in your thoughts recently, but our species does thrive on social contact. None of us know when it will be one of us who is in need of friendship, guidance, and advice so I'm glad that we can be here for you. While not exactly like sharing a campfire, it is companionship

I think that Mr. Seacowboys is teasing me but that is alright. Laughter lightens the heart and makes all troubles seem manageable so I appreciate the humor.

Agree, his case is unique in that SHTF has not gone worldwide, just local. Taking down the walking steak might not best be done with the Benelli, noise carries.

Frank, is it fair to assume you know enough about bovine physiology to cut its throat with your large knife and not get kicked to death? Be wary, if it's a cow, you can walk right up to it. If a steer, it may not cooperate that way, then again it might. If it's a bull, well, it will want to stomp you.

Are you suggesting that the solution to Frank's lack of companionship rests in his own hands??? : O I can see how that might provide some temporary relief from the tyranny of lonelyness. ; )

I think we may have embarrassed Ms RightHand. Our apologies to the lady. Is there a "Boy's Club" where we might enjoy a little ribald humor? I must say, I am thoroughly enjoying the company

Yes, Frank....I think it convenes in the SM man-cave....you'll fit in nicely. Just wear your "I hate Obumma" stick pin....and carry your John Birch Society membership card and all will be well. Passing around a few Jack Chick tracts wouldn't do any harm either. I'll be the token atheist liberal satanist, slaughtering a goat in the corner for ritual sacrifice. Actually it's just a BBQ spit roast, but don't tell the others that.

I'm happy to share some tips on field dressing goats for cooking. (wiccan rituals optional).

Frank somthing you might want to try so this won't happen again is take some of the half dry cow wast and some died grass and leaves roll in a ball about the size of a volley ball push a hole about half way through with a quter size stick. Place some of the not cloals in the center and they will last for at least a day when you are out gathering food and other needs. It alos makes it easier to transport fire from place to place. I havn't had the chance to try this but I dids see a video on it the when yoy get to the time to restart the fire break it apart and you will also have a fuel to help star the fire. If it works cold save a little time for other tasks.

Mr. Alpha, your idea seems to have sound reasoning. Although there seem to be storm clouds toward the southeast, the sun is shining this morning so I plan on trying to locate at least some semi-solid bovine manure to give this a try. The rains in the past few days have caused much of this resource to become too watery as to be of any use but, since the factory never closes, I believe I will be able to find a fresh supply.

While I'm on my quest, I will again be searching for some edible plants. I will bring back more of the watercress but, after the last adventure, I will eat is more sparingly. In preparation, I spent the early morning locating and reading through the pdf files on edible plants in the area. I wish that I had taken the time to search for and identify these edibles when I was doing the original research and downloading the pdf. I don't have a printing device that would allow me to print pictures of safe plants so I'm going to have to do my best to commit them to memory before I begin searching. Before I eat my find, I'll make sure to go back to the pdf file to verify, as best I can, that the plant is safe to eat.

I do remember seeing some dandelions in the cow field. As I child, my mother would collect the greens for our supper table so I know that at least my dinner will include the salad course. One of the problems I foresee is there are is so much vegetation in the area that it is difficult to know where to begin the search. When I was out the other day, I gravitated toward what the cows were eating thinking that would be a clue to edibles. I am aware that many edible plants have poisonous lookalikes so I'm a little nervous. I do remember seeing some Queen Anne's lace (wild carrots) so I plan on harvesting some of those first. I remember that the roots can be eaten either raw or cooked. I think I will also be able to find some early spring berries but I have to be careful in selecting these since many are toxic or, at the very least, can cause some digestive distress, the last thing I need at the moment. I'm just starting to get over my cold and I certainly don't want to eat anything that will further weaken my system.

Well, I'm off for a while. I'll try to report back later.

If you can find a dogwood tree the leaves and bark can be made into a tea. Good for fevers if you have more trouble from your cold.
