Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting, but I work for an Independent TV Production Company in London, and we are developing a documentary that would be looking at all aspects of the prepping community, from new starters to established preppers and survival experts. It will also look across the diverse reasons to as why people prep from economic breakdown and rising food prices to SHTF scenarios. We are trying to talk to people in the UK involved in the prepping/survivalist communties over here, who are happy to tell us about their preps and why they prep. Ideally we want to feature as wide a range of preppers as possible and show a truthful representation of the UK prepping scene. It would be great to speak to any of you further about you experiences with prepping and find out more about yourself. If you are able to reply to my email or drop me a line it would be much appreciated- my contact details are: <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /> naomi.banat@bullseyetv.co.uk 0203 189 3510 I look forward to hopefully hearing from you. Best Wishes, Naomi
FOTFLMAO Too funny, "a truthful representation" and TV do not belong i the same conversation. Ever. Second point - OpSec.. Nothing like pasting a big fat target on your back for every nutcase or thief in the country. Oh, well, maybe this TV show will show folks who prep as something other than a nutcase. Maybe. After all the Beeb has been known for their straight up, non biased, non-far left leaning 'reporting' of late - eh?
Naomi, I have to say that if your production winds up looking anything like what Nat'l Geo does on this side of the pond, reality is pretty nearly as far away as the Cat's Eye galaxy. You won't get serious preppers to rally when OPSEC gets considered. And emphatically, there is no objection to your posting. You might spend some time rooting thru this site to get some pretty good ideas of the why's and how's it's done.
Good luck...your show participants will certainly need it! Naomi, I wish you and your production compnay well with your project...but...I'm not sure whether the treatment of the subject will be a value free objective examination on prepper perspectives. Preppers represent a spectrum of ideologies and world views: an homogenous bunch we aren't. Eccentrics and flakey people on the fringes of the prepping lifestyle may make for far more interesting entertainment than "normal" people, who in other times would be referred to as careful, prudent and frugal. However, featuring prepping "freaks" at the expense of authentic unassuming preppers would be mischievously misleading. It is probably one of the main criticisms of recent "reality" tv treatments of prepping by media production companies in the United States... Remembering that OPSEC is a sensible concern for any prudent prepper. Those volunteers who are prepared to compromise OPSEC for 15 minutes of national exposure and attention, are probably not going to be very genuine representatives of prepping, even if their pantry runneth over and they are a dab hand with a bow and arrow. Find a better promo jingle writer and producer than Natgeo did with their Prepper series....their promo signature song sounds more like the start of a 1960's sitcom intro (The Beverly Hillbillies comes to mind), than a factual documentary program....I await your production with baited breath (so that I can write my "Rotten Tomatoes" style review of it). You won't regret it...I promise you. Edit: If your show is popular and you decide to extend the franchise to Australia...your people can talk with my people about an appropriately remunerative arrangement....but I warn you fairly that i DO have a penchent for disguises! (OPSEC is all) My fellow monkeys can attest to that inclination, among others. ; )
You will probably have a hard time finding legit preppers who are not trying to sell something for you tv show. Assuming there are preppers on here to find...
I put them on my burgers.. I'm a prepper, you're a prepper, don't you want to be a prepper too!! Hey Chello.. well said. I don't call it prepping anymore except for a few thing that are obvious (gear etc..), but other than that, I am not doing anything that my grandparents didn't do. They had large gardens and canned what they grew blah blah.. Not prepping.. it's called NORMAL.
What a shocker... Raw TV and Bullseye TV are both properties of Zodiak Media. Motion to remove contact info from OP...
It's the Devil's work!! That probably explains quite a lot, and will probably explain why the Brit show will probably be a freak show also (with much the same kind of tacky promo intro).....but with people speaking with cute regional accents. I'd love to see how a Sloan Ranger goes about their prepping though...that would have good entertainment value!
