RH, While sitting at my computer listening to some tunes, wife came in and handed me the youngest grand daughter. At first she just looked around and up at me, but soon she was trying to bounce along in time to the music. As I sat there holding her in my arm, and together we had a bond, that was free and it wasn't long until I looked down at her and she was asleep, you can't buy that peace. How can you put a price on those things? No amount of money can purchase the best things we have in life.
Wild Trapper, our lives are made up of moments and you have just had one. Your heart must be overflowing with peacefulness - until she wakes up and wants a bottle.......but then there is another special moment to be enjoyed
p u eeeeeeeeeeee Don't forget the brown goo and that terrible gut wrenching stank as you get the honor of changing the diaper as well. All in a days work for a parent, relative or very very close friend.
My first grandchild was born in early December and I encouraged my daughter and her husband to get out of the house and go to the company Christmas party. I really did want them to have a respite but even more than that, I wanted to have that baby all to myself for a few hours. It started off fine, I gave her a bottle, burped her, rocked her, changed the diapers, rocked her some more, sang to her......I was having a wonderful time. Then she fell asleep....perfectly normal but it had been more than 20 years since I had a sleeping baby in the house and I had forgotten how deeply they sleep and how lightly they breathe. OMG, had she stopped breathing????? With my heart pounding, I laid my hand on her chest, trying to feel for life - nothing....tried the finger under the nose trick, again nothing. Now I was getting desperate thinking maybe I should call an ambulance for this dying child but before I did, I would pick her up and see what happened. Of course, the obvious happened - she started to cry then Grammy started to cry. Pretty soon, both of us in quite a state, settled down on the couch to wait for the parents to return. I didn't let her go to sleep again that night. I jiggled her, tickled her, briskly walked the room - mustn't let her sleep! When the parents came home, Baby and Grammy were both asleep on the sofa, one silent and the other snoring so loud it was a wonder the first could sleep through it. In the days that followed, it all started to come back to me - what it was like to have a baby in the house. By the time numbers 2 and 3 came along, I was a pro again. That baby is now a freshman in college having survived many, many nights with her grandmother and I adore her just as much today as I did that very first Christmas together.
For some reason I have never had the honor of having to give a bottle to either of my grand daughters.... mothers milk... and grandmas honor to change them if they are here for a visit. Most of the time they are next door at home. If I'm out and the older one is out playing and sees me, she comes running either for a hug or just to hold my hand and follow me around, at least until something else catches her attention.
Some days you just have to blow off all projects, put on some tunes and smile while flipping thru photo albums.
Try a mirror next time Placing a small mirror near the infant's mouth and nose should pick up some condensation...that's why there is usually a mirror in a woman's cosmetic compact.....it's not always about one's own vanity... ; ) On a more somber note....an hypoxic child's facial colour, and lips particularly won't be a nice healthy looking pink...my eventually to be ex wife and I were called by the distressed parents of an infant (from the downstairs apartment to ours) who was past saving (SIDS - Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)(...My eventually-to-be ex wife was, and still is a registered nurse. An ambulance was called, and my eventually to be ex-wive gave CPR to the dead child until the ambulance officers could assume responsibility. It was more for the parent's sake than the infant's...at least giving them the feeling that all that could have been done for the infant was done. It was hard on the both of us, and on the parents obviously. When it was our turn to have children, we were hyper vigilant at least for a while with the first one, the second and third child..we took in our stride....all three have survived their parenting into adulthood. My youngest son was so appreciative, that he invited his mother and myself recently to the ceremony welcoming him as a freshman student at his university. It was a very touching moment for us all. I think that he was proud of his achievement in doing the hard yards in reaching that goal, and I think he is proud of both his parent's efforts in helping him to get there as well. : ) On a slightly unrelated note, my eventually-to-be ex-wife and I were killing ourselves laughing, taking down curtains at my mother-in-law's house (My mother-in-law is a feisty 96 year old...who still does her own cooking) so that they could be washed, and then killing ourselves laughing when re-hanging the same washed curtains. Who would have thought that fooling around with curtains could be so much fun, lol
My Afternoon Annoyance A clue to the level of my annoyance with "the boys" in the shop today! I guess I have to hold another seminar. The last one was on how to install paper of on the roll holder
The 3 rules of Success.... 1. Always pursue ways to better yourself 2. Don't share everything you know.
Well it could be you have a babysitter you do not like, and you just intentionally peed your britches. .... or maybe you are just happy.
You could give operant conditioning a try Regarding post# 2931 Electrify the seat, with high voltage, very low amperage current, such that a stream of electolytic solution (urea) completes the circuit....I'm sure that they will learn real quickly to do the right thing... ; )
I do not know what the Statutes in AU are on Assault... but here, in most States, doing the above, will get you convicted of Felony Assault, and you will lose ALL your Gun Rights.... It is the same as setting a Set-Gun.... and getting caught.... ...... YMMV....

Don't build your own "Old Sparky" in your privy! Relax RH...I think that BT is just performing his moderating duties diligently. Some who visit the site may not know me as well as the regulars and may not have picked up on the hint that my post was a tongue in cheek satirical solution and may think..."What a great idea!" and build their own "old sparky" in the out house. Perhaps I should have appended one of those advisories that say "This is for educational and entertainment purposes only....actual construction and employment may result in criminal prosecution and the loss of your precious gun license!". Edit: Problem Fixed....advisory posted.
