What do you see when looking at your neighbors?

We have all talked about opsec. We all know that there are few people we can really trust. It has been mentioned before that some neighbors might be useful for work and security after a situation. I usually feel that I have most of my neighbors pegged pretty well. However, it has been on my mind a lot lately. I seem to be second guessing myself alot. I can find no apparent reason for this. No real changes anywhere. So my question is: how do you really evaluate your neighbors? What are the signs you can watch for?

Easy...Several like myself are ''seasoned'' and in the oilfield...Only 1 that i would count on...The other 3 will have to try a little bit harder...The remainder will more than likley be on there own...

I see dangerous unreliable white trash when I see my neighbors. Three out of seven homes on my street are OK, but the rest... future zombies

My opinion think of them all as a possible threat, you never know what people are willing to do when faced with life or death. As far as your preps let them know as little as possible I prefer to let them know nothing. My grandpa had a saying I have adopted "It's better to be smart and act dumb than to be dumb and act smart" Being a L.E.O. for many years has shown me one thing people will do anything in a time of need. Look at it like this what would you do to protect your loved ones. What ever you decide just be careful because you can't take them knowing back.

I don't really plan on telling them anything. I tend to look at them as who might be a problem and who might be useful. It is just this nagging feeling that I am missing something when I look at the neighborhood. Maybe something important.

The 1 that i trust is what you see is what you get type of guy...Plus he has 7 Horse's and a couple of hundred head of cattle down the road about 12 mile's...I see filet's in my future...

The one reason that I am so free with my Knowledge Base here on the MOnkey is that I live so far out in the Alaskan Bush, it just isn't possible that any of you will be coming to do "Me and Mine" BAD in any conceivable SHTF situation.... If I lived anywhere else I would not be near as free, with my Personal Information. OPSec is very important, and is directly proportional to the number of Neighbors within walking or driving distance to your location.... having a "Trusted Group" also helps, some but you NEVER give even those, a complete read on your Personal, and Family Preps.... ..... YMMV....

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

More important to me is, what do my neighbors see when they look at me.

Hippy eco greenie nutjob who loves designer shoes is what I'm counting on. ;) If TSHTF they will write me off as someone who can't survive without credit cards, organic produce, and Starbucks.

  9. I prefer the goofy guy who couldn't find his way out of the closet approach... It's worked this far. Besides everyone already thinks I'm a bit... well.. fruity.
There are very few people that I would trust in a SHTF situation and I can count them on 1 hand.

I would add that I let people know that I Believe in violence to protect my stuff and feel that It should be legal to shoot a thief running from your home. Gives them an understanding of where you will be when there are no rules.

DW, you and I think alike! I portray the image of a poor middle-aged guy who doesn't have much, keeps to himself and doesn't make any fuss about anything. No TV dish, no 'kid toys', no boats, ATV's or other expensive big-boy toys. A couple vehicles on blocks - hey, I am trying to look 'poor redneck' after all!
Most of my neighbors are older folks, my age or more, also with not much money. NONE know of my preps. I have noticed when the hurricanes come, they tend to scoot into town to be with relatives. Often leaves the 'hood to me alone - that's when I am especially watchful in case the Zombies roam and loot....... [peep]

Yeah, but a near miss will put overdrive in their steps, eh? There's nothing quite like a whistle near your ear followed by a sharp crack hitting the eardrum.

One of the advantages to living on the ridge line; the only way to run is stay on the road.

Fortuniately my neighbors arent visible from my home. The problem is start mentioning your prepping they all think your crazy, but post SHITF no telling what they would do. Im learning just to keep to myself and act stupit, save me alot of greif now and will in the future.

People are only human...and when put in a corner, they are capable of some pretty atavistic behavior. But, even when the chips are down, they are also capable of some pretty altruistic behavior.

But, I think it is safer to expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised, than to blindly give the benefit of the doubt and get my family killed. Therefore, for the most part, I see most neighbors as a threat.

A few weeks without any food and there's no telling what people are capable of...especially if they have kids.

If you're looking for a good book, read the Jakarta Pandemic. It will give you some good scenarios to go over in your head. For example, a$$hole neighbor wants some food...and has kids, what do you do?

At what point do we lose our morality after SHTF?
