I am thinking of making Venrabiterrel. Take a venison roast and stuff a rabbit into it. But before you stuff the rabbit in there, you will need to stuff some squirrels in the rabbit. Wrap it up with some twine and smoke that sumbitch for about 10 hours.
When everything is rolling along, we sometimes forget how reassuring it is to have people, whether near or far, there for us when we crash. The cavalry came to my rescue today when I stopped rolling. They came from all directions. I feel truly blessed
The barest hint of a pinkish crescent moon is visible against the blueish gray winter sky. Venus is bright and beckoning as always at this time of year and the skeletons of the deciduous trees are painted with fine brush strokes against the horizon of orange and mauve. I love twilight in the winter
I saw that today also ghrit. I heard their call and watched them fly overhead on what was an early spring day
Pencils. No power means no electronic spread sheets unless manually worked up on the desk that no longer has a desktop 'puter.
Looking forward to the return of "my" robins....they almost always return to our yard on March 31st. Hope Leap Year doesn't mix them up though, lol. Some years they are over their heads in snow but they will still be there no matter the weather. Along with the first sight of the crocuses they are the joy of my Spring!
If cats always land on their feet and buttered bread always lands buttered face down what would happen if you buttered the back of a cat and then dropped it twards the floor would the cat just hover about six inches above the floor??
I saw that happen once!! Of course that was in the 70's and I may have been indulging in a little mind altering substance at the time.
Robins hung around most of the winter here, have seen a few every month except maybe January. When the swallows show up, I know it will be spring. Plan to put the tiller on the tractor today and try the ground, gotta get that early stuff in soon. Never did have to put the snow plow on this year..., yet!
In the Word Association thread, tacmotusn said that nothing is free, everything comes with a cost. I have to disagree with my friend. There is much that is free for the taking. Every night at twilight, I go outside and look at the horizon and the sky, watch the moon and the stars change position overhead; I like to drive down a country road on bright, sunny days, music blasting from the stereo; I walk in the woods and enjoy the smells and sights; the cardinals that nest outside of my window every year and the hummingbirds that visit the azalea every summer; hearing the voice of a friend at the other end of the phone; the sound of rushing water and the smell of a campfire; watching seeds sprout with the knowledge of what is to come; a good meal and a glass of wine; holding hands with a lover while exploring city streets; looking into the faces of my child and my grandchildren and seeing their smiles; laughter; tears with a friend; memories of other times, other places, and people; sitting at the piano making music; putting flowers on the graves of those we have loved and lost; wiggling my toes in the sand at the shoreline; fishing; listening to silence; simply loving. There is much in my life that is completely free, waiting for me to grab it in both hand and celebrate living. If my happiness depended on what money could buy, I would be a woman sadly lacking joy in my life and that's not the way I choose to live. I'm not a Pollyanna - I have learned that sadness, grief, and times of want as well as times of plenty will be recurring visitors in my life so I am greedy in finding every moment of happiness I can.
I bow to the fine lady from Connecticut and concede she has provided many examples of truly free and wonderful things. Did I spell your State correctly?
