I bought some ammo the other day that had a brass jacket as opposed to a copper jacket. There is something goofy looking about it. I would assume its a cost savings manuever and that it doesnt effect the way a bullet functions. What do you guys think?
Fioochi Remington is also using a brass jacket on their "Golden Saber". It just doesnt look quite as goofy bc of the nickel shell.
I feed my 9's brass jacketed ammo - that is typically the kind of bullet found on CTD bulk ammo, just fine. Since it is an alloy of copper and zinc, I assume it is a cost savings thing. Less copper per bullet than copper jacketed rounds, therefore cheaper to make. It would also depend on the quantity of zinc used in the alloy, more zinc = less copper. Brass does tarnish, hence products like Brasso to polish brass items. I have never has a fail-to-feed or fail-to-fire using the bulk ammo from CTD, and at $0.17/round (the last time I bought it), it is the cheapest way to feed my guns. Downside is it is once fired brass and you have to buy 1000 rounds at a go. Now that I think about it, what kind of downside is that? YMMV.
Ok.I have been seeing the name ..so i went into Cabelas web site and reviewed the rating by customer's...Seem's like very good stuff...A lot of 5 star rating's..I'd roll with it...Check it out against what ever else you've been shooting...and give us an update based on your score's...
Rather than 'brass', more likely 'gilding metal'...? Fairly common in ammo. In any case, all three perform very similarly. When the manufacturer is producing ammo in massive lots, the cost difference can mean a good savings.
I actually have a lot of rounds that have more of a brass look than a copper look to them. Never a problem really. Most of my issues have stemmed from bad magazines.
Brass jackets is pretty common... especially to those of you familiar with the "Corbin bullet Swaging" system... Brass is pretty soft so it isnt a problem and doest foul as much as copper does.... however... often the brass jackets are thinner and dont expand with the controllable manner that copper has... Early batches of Golden sabers were almost explosive in the way they came apart on impact... wasn't in a good way either... they have since fixed that prob, BTW and the goldensabers are the flavor of chioce for both me and the FBI... Brass jackets are fine to use... you'll be just fine shooting them. Corbin Bullet Jackets
