This is my list so far, please let me know if y'all have any suggestions for me? 2- AR-15's both custom build with about 44-5 k rounds 2 - .45 ACP 1) Kimber 1) STI about 2k rounds 2 - .22 rifles about 15k rounds in the process of building a rem 700 .308 sniper.
A Pump Action Shotgun with Extended Tube Magazine, that even the wife can wield.... Would be handy.... ..... YMMV....
Check out Winchester's WinLite line of shells for low-recoil: http://www.winchester.com/Products/...inlite-low-recoil/buckshot/Pages/default.aspx If you're thinking 'home defense,' load the first two rounds with the lowest number short-brass shell you can find (I've seen #4s and #6s). From 5'-10' away, you're going to leave a nasty singular hole. She probably wouldn't need a 3rd shot...and if she did, adrenaline might "ease" the kick.
she had a hard time shooting regular old dove load, she is fairly petite. These are a great idea, any idea on the cost?
Bird loads are super-cheap. I saw #4 short-brass at Wal-Mart...cheap. But, I haven't seen them in a while...but, I haven't been looking either. You may want to invest in a 20 gauge youth/bantam auto then . . . or a Saiga 20. Also, get a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad (or something similar). I'd rather hit something with a 20 than miss with a 12. No?
rustyb380, A 12 ga will beat you up if it does not properly 'Fit' the user. When my oldest was 10 (4 foot something and sub 80#) she didn't have a problem shooting the 12 Ga. with High Brass #4 heavy game loads. She dusted 4 fox squirrels out of the tree tops for dinner. if the gun is too long for her, meaning that the controls have her hyper extending or she has improper form holding the shotgun, Yes it's going to hurt. They make youth models that have shorter stocks making it easier to hold the gun correctly. Had Youth 870 stock and forarm put on for her and swapped out the longer bird barrel for smooth bore rifle sight barrel. Surprising how much just an inch and a half on the stock length will change the fit. The shorter barrel also made it easier for her to handle the gun and not making it feel so long and front heavy. You didn't mention what type of 12 gauge you had currently, but if it is a single shot 12 that's gonna hurt typically due to it's light weight. not tried below items. they also make 'Muzzle brake choke adapters' or replacement barrels that have brakes for the remmys that will also reduce felt recoil.
Perhaps a few replacement parts for each category of firearm. It's great you have 2 of each caliber right now. After the shotgun, I'm sure you'll find more to buy -- AR10, CCW handguns, reloading equipment, etc., etc., etc... It gets better with every gun you get :^)
Just so long as you don't have to keep adding new calibers to your prep list. While I'd love a .270, .338 Lapua, .300 win mag; alas those won't be coming home to stay in the safe anytime soon. I'll just get more food, water, seeds, and livestock before adding new calibers.
(playing devil's advocate) Of course, the other side to that argument is that the more firearms of various calibers you have, the more likely you will be to find ammo in the PAW.</playing>
I used to shoot Trap with a few petite women; always start with the basics or shooting will not be pleasant and it will hurt. First, a good hold and a firearm which fits. IMO, it is easier for you to use a youth model which fits her than for her to use a full sized 12 gauge which fits you. My opinion is based on being tall with extra long arms so nothing ever fits, lol. 've learned to adapt because I had no choice. Women won't try to adapt to what doesn't fit. Any man here knows better than to ask a woman why won't she adapt to what doesn't fit. Choking up is easier than stretching.
After picking up a shotgun...I say start all over and get seconds or thirds of the same. I'm a firm believer in "two is one, one is none"
I have a Bennali super nova pump, I have thought about the muzzel breal option. I have several more guns than listed above just no way to take them all with me. I am only taking the ones i have cans for, in the event of course.
I was going to say "stock too long for the wife, get one that fits her", but that has been covered. Lots of youth model stocks out there so you don't have to cut down the one you have on it now. Possibly a Rem 870 youth model in 20 ga for her and the 12 ga for you.
What round is the most popular in your area? There are a lot of good reasons to have something that others in your area have. In Michigan for example it would be foolish not to have a 30-30. You can't drop kick a skunk far enough to not find a 30-30 under the rock it lands on . A 300 Weatherby, not so much. Sent from my phone using Tapatalk
