my escape plan is to grab the boat, put in to lake huron and bug out to weegrannymush's over in Canada. If i go really really fast i can be there in 5 hours. Now where is the Miss Bud Hydroplane when you need her (that would only be like 2 hours)

"couldn't agree more - they are looking for the young guys with no life experience who will just follow orders - maybe they just did a short stint in the military. It's all they know...

Makes for incredibly ineffectual law enforcement officers but VERY effective order following drones...they don't have enough life experience to know the difference between letter of the law and spirit of the law

"Sweet, now were do I get me some of that? Oh yeah, down at the local PD.

Seriously though. a little bit of overkill with the BearCat. Great for getting into trouble. Not so go when you are trapped inside with a bunch of hostiles that have cut off your ingress and egress.

Sitting inside waiting to be cooked?

I think an officer would be better off in an unmarked than trying to pick a fight."

yep , and fire is your friend if used creatively . A lot of troops in Vietnam preferred to ride on top of the 113s because of mines .

The same can be said for the Revolution . Ben Franklin disowned his own son when hostilities erupted because he stayed loyal to the crown and they were very close by all accounts . The last civil war was because of states rights . It was also americas last chance to have a real choice , when people have two nations to choose from , they will go where the grass is greener or fits their way better . I can guarantee if the Confederacy would have been the victor , we would not have a problem with illegals or drug smugglers ........that border would be secure ! I agree that another civil war is possible , I also dare say may actually be needed to clean things up . As to the factions ? your guess is as good as mine . But if it happens , my mom will get her 28th bar in the UDC . I got the grey ready !

Any LEO who thinks it'd be good to be locked inside an armored vehicle deep "in de hood" should check back through history - like Hungary in the 50's and Berlin in the mid 40's...... tanks ain't so great in tight urban quarters.

As Oddball once said, "It's a Tiger, and we got it by the arse!" [own2]

Gasoline makes lots of pretty light........

My fear would be thermite or napalm really bring some hurt on armor. I guess some gas and dish soap could be bad as well. I feel better outside were I can see whats going on.

Sometimes the BEST vehicle to get us out of trouble is "Shank's Mare"....

That's "Running like blazes" for the younger generation........ [beer]

The cops used to have the old Roman "Wall of Shields" thing down pat too, when facing a huge crowd of protestors, just substituting the billy club for the gladius. Worked pretty well. Slam into the mob, shields locked and clubs swinging...... problem solved, knuckleheads in the clink.

No but been behind one when an RPG missed by so close that it hit a ruck sack on the top. The kind of thing that will make your a$$ hole want to suck a lemon.

In '69 an RPG came in my door of the C-model gunship I was in, went by about 18" from my mid-section, barely missed the gunner on the other side and out the opposite door.

Trust me...that does get one's attention. Couldn't take a dump for days.

Also saw a good friend basically decapitated by a .51...that one made me a little crazy for a while.

On my first real op I got attacked by a sentry dog whose handler had just left this world about 8 feet from me. That dog was on me so fast and time had almost stopped. My gerber BMF really saved me that night. The next morning our medic put 53 stitches in me. Anyway from then on I was known as Dogfood

War is a game for crazy people after all.

One unfortunate aspect of war, is when prior hunters can no longer take pleasure in deer hunting. Have a couple vietnam era buddies like that. Survival would be a different matter, but just to go out with their friends to hunt - nah. I respect that, and am sorry for it.

Most cops I see here at our range, are here to practice for their quals. I guess they want to be away from the Law Enforcement range, knowing they won't make a good showing. Most of them shoot only for qual, and are NOT 'gun people'. These folks don't have any interest being on a SWAT team, and all the 'High Testosterone' stuff. They care more about just doing their jobs.
Kindov the opposite extreme from those we've been discussing.

Were you a porch monkey !! LOL
I saw a 51 cut our Lt in two at the belt line ,he never knew what hit him.
This time of year I think of them all very much .But there is only two of left that I can find and I talk to him every chance I get !!!!!!!!!

That is true I no longer hunt my son go's with my father-in-law and his uncle. I do take him shooting hiking and camping but really can't get into hunting now. I guess in some ways I know how the deer feel now.

Started out LRRPin', but gunners got hot food and mattresses every night you got to sleep.

I've always been kind of a lazy sort.

The Chicom Type 51 is nothing more than a copy of the Soviet Tokarev TT-33 semi-automatic pistol in 7.62x25mm; cannot imagine it going through the side of an APC unless the APC was made of aluminum foil? Did you perchance mean a Chicom 55? That would be a 37mm anti-aircraft gun based on the 1938 Bofors gun and occassionaly used against light armor.

In Vietnam, what we called the .51 was the Chicom 14.7mm heavy machine gun. It was used heavily as an anti-aircraft (helicopter) weapon and frequently as a fixed base anti personel weapon.

The Chinese are currently using 12.7mm, but back when they 'borrowed' from the Russians, the calibers were a bit 'odd' to us. I don't envy the troopers that had to face those weapons! I was happy to serve as a tech, on aircraft then on shipboard.
