Mines is not always the nicest job working with nicest of people... our department is tasked with trying to help sex offenders go back to work and become productive again... thankfully I personally do not have to work with them... To be fair... here in the last 7 months we've had two case workers attacked... in one case the offender was tased in the neck... he never saw it coming... in the second case a would-be ripest was quite surprised when this very sweet blue haired lady... pulled out her "Lady Smith" and held him at gun point until the police arrived...

Lets not down play it, there are extremists, terrorists, and violent criminals amongst every faith. When a self identified Christian commits an act of violence it's, "Oh he isn't really a Christian." True but if you read the koran it calls for violenc against non beliver's and other religon's. Now I will say that the Christian faith had it's darker days as well but the Muslim faith has not plans or desires to change. Then if you look around at the communities they are setting up the are wanting to run them under their own laws of their religon. I just want to tell them "Hey you are in the US now your laws don't apply. Have your religon but you will live by our law"
Canon law still prevails within (say) the Catholic church. I cannot see that Sharia should be prohibited within the mosques. At least until it conflicts with law outside the mosque, and no violations of US law occurs either in or out. Not holding my breath, I can tell you.
There is plenty within the Bible that could similarly be called into question but when you raise that issue it's "well we don't live by the old testament." Really? How's about throwing it away then? If you actually sit down and read the Quran or study the Prophet Muhammad, you would be amazed by the man. Much like extremists have interpreted the Bible to suit themselves the Quran is subject to the same. I'm not Muslim, in fact I am an Asatru heathen, but I respect Muhammad the man as I respect Jesus the man. One doesn't need to believe in the religion to take something good away from it's teachings. I agree.

Yeah that I am totally against. We've already got a seperate system of law for rich & poor, we don't need separate systems for each religion. I am for the practice of Sharia Law within the home or mosque to the extent that it does not violate US law or the rights of another individual who hasn't consented to such law.
Interesting take on things, but not logically consistent. The prophet of islam is mohammed. Look at him as a person--he advocated the spreading of islam by the sword. Christ is the pillar of Christianity. Look at him and what he advocated. To admire the two is to hold to wildly different beliefs within the same mind. I'm pretty sure that isn't a good recipe for sanity.
That's funny, considering the one major religion that actually was spread by the sword was in fact Christianity. Muhammad's only use of violence was against the Meccans who had persecuted Muslims and stolen from them. Muhammad was a very thoughtful man and was not one to tolerate senseless violence from his own people. Muhammad had a deep respect for animals and other aspects of nature as well as a high regard for the value of human life. Your belief that Islam is a religion of violence comes from the widespread misunderstanding of what the term jihad actually means. Jihad in the Quran is a far cry from what we understand jihad to mean today.
