Gee only 238 times? Wow, slacking. Oh and this is just as useless of a reply as the previous 2.

Who here knows about the cricket-chirping temperature thing?

    • You count the number chirps in 14 seconds, then add 40 - that's the outside temp.
In looking into this more, I've found that there's a southern method (it's for crickets with a drawl ~giggle~). They only count for 5 seconds, but then there's a seasonal multiplier (that I'm not sure of).

So - do tell - who here knows what I'm talking about? Is it true? Is it accurate?

It is called Dolbears Law and there is no variation between "Northern" or "Southern" crickets. It is applied across the board. Anyone who adds to the method is either an Engineer or just plain ornery.

When it was 20 degrees by my thermometer i waited 14 seconds and there where no chirps ... added 40... figured it was 40 degrees out side ... and froze my butt off....

No sane cricket is out in 20 degree weather. Just sayin'. YMMV. Must have been one of them "Furry Crickets" ...

Why is it that everyone wants to be a survivor but "survivalist" is a dirty word?

Start talking zombies and Mad Max, the average person will take part with gusto. Talk real-life prepping and being truly 'independent', and their minds lock us out. They can deal with the most ridiculous fiction, but they cannot deal with reality.

They planted a tree, over 200 years ago. The tree, however wilts, and dies. We needs must tend it before it is gone forever.

"Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."
