Anyone have any Idea what to do with the cases guns come in when you buy them? Other than my throw them in the attic? They starting to accumulate a bit much!!!
My Ruger case is excellent for transporting it. It can take a lock and is rigid, high quality plastic. My wife's Taurus slims came in bull-pup nylon "cases" lined with egg crate and are her range bags, they are hard nylon, clam shell design. My DPMS case is a great lockable clam shell, also lined with egg crate, with adequate room for mags, cleaning kit, extra optics etc. All my cases get used, for lockable storage or transportation, as needed - which is not often. The only case that got trashed was the cardboard box my Remington 870 came in.
I sold many of mine, people wanted them! $20 is better than throwing them away, and it made someone's day in the process!
I keep most of my rifle boxes, in case I may move again some day. Just can't get enough good cases for 60-odd rifles! (Half are rimfires) While I do have a few foam-lined hard cases, I generally prefer the soft cases for transport to/from the range. When I had my Tercel on the road, space was very limited - those hard cases filled the car! Not so bad now with the van..... I've been known to do a range day with eight or more rifles, and spend all day there. Don't do that anymore.......
Since I lost all my firearms in a boating accident. I thought it only proper to take the cases to the lake and toss them in as well.
Sell them on EBay or craigslist... a lot of collectors want the matching cases... Of course I'm talking about those folks who buy as Investments rather than shooters
The one thing I would NOT do with them is set them out for the trash collector to know what you have. This is by no means pointed at anyone in particular, but who among us hasn't thought or done something that seemed like a good idea and three seconds later wondered why the mental OPSEC check list was overlooked. ('Zamples include "reply all" ---)
All cardboard covers, I shredded by hand, put them into plastic trash bags, and covered ever so nicely with "shovel ready projects" from my 2 dogs and "kitty litter with almonds" from the cats! Let em dig thru that !
All my handgun cases are plastic. Only my Heritage Roughrider came in a cardboard case. An they starting to add Up!!! Only 3 rifles came in cases, one case stays in the truck, one gun & case is umm........... not findable? The other don't go in a case, it stays ready.
Yep, same as I always tell people about the boxes TV's, PC's, etc. It is not uncommon for targeted houses to be burglarized around here after the Christmas trash goes out. As for the OP I have found they can make nice cases for power tools that didn't come with their own cases. All my dewalt stuff came with hard cases but my semi-disposable Skil drills are kept in handgun cases.
We call that ''baiting'' down here... May not be legal in your state...Check your Reg's. Just send me your old unwanted gun case's.150... Baiting is legal in Louisiana...ccc
I save them up along with the gun locks they give plus collect the ones from my buddy's that they don't want. Then I take them to a couple of local gun shops and trade them for a few boxes of ammo, AR mags, pistol mags and other little stuff. Because the shops have to buy them and it saves them a little plus I get a little extra for something Im not goiing to use. I just don't tell my buddy's or they would be doing it.
