    Installed my manual "simple" pump

Back on 29 April 2011 I ordered a backup ("Simple") manual lever well pump (it will draw from as deep as 300 feet) and extra optional 12vdc gear motor. (this system can be hard wired from a storage battery bank via a pressure switch and disconnect, and can be used to pressurize your house system when normal power is out. The pressure switch is real important if tying this into your house system, because it is capable of providing 100psi.) It is a very high quality constructed pump and was pretty straight forward and easy to install. It took 2 of us about 90 minutes all told.
    .
It is fully installed for manual lever mode and spigot. It was too damn hot back in May when it came in for installation. After I get a small solar system and battery bank I will hard wire and install the 12vdc gear motor. All that is required to change out the lever and install the gear motor; is to pull two detented pins and remove the lever. Remove four 1/2-20 stainless steel allen head bolts and the pivot bracket for the lever. Then use those same four bolts to mount the gear motor, and connect to 12vdc.
    .
Now both my 240vac submersible pump and my manual pump are installed in the same 4 inch cased well. Check out the "Simple pump" .... Hand Water Pump, Motorized, by SIMPLE PUMP

Did the flea market/garage sale thing today. Found and excellent Antique Optimus single burner table top stove. Seems to be much like the 70 years continuous seller "Hiker" model except without box enclosure. The Hiker model is multi fuel. Paid $3.00
    .
45 pound fiberglass abidextrous recurve bow. Paid $2.00
    .
4 bags wood chips/cubes for smoker, one each Apple, Cherry, Pecan, and Hickory. Paid 50 cents per bag
    .
One nice original oil painting 16 by 28 inches framed. Paid $5.00
    .
One big coffee table cookbook. Williams-Sonoma 4 seasons cookbook, cook whats fresh and cheap, not imported. Paid $2.00
    .
Airline approved locking 2 gun, guncase. Injection molded heavy duty plastic with aluminum framing, and plastic closed cell foam waffle padding. I already have several like this, paid no less than $25 to $30 new. Paid $5.00 for this one
    .
Now before y'all think I am blowing my cash on stuff like this ...... Well I took the quarters and dimes out of my nightly dump your change jar. $72 worth. Not a penny out of my meager wallet. Shoot, I even ate breakfast out of the change, and then dumped the excess back in the jar.

Went to one of those stores that sell returned/refurbished merchandise (Essex in Jackson, TN) The wife found a Katadyn Drip Ceradyn water filter. These seem to be going for $200+, we got it for $80. Everything was there, still had the original seal on the box. The original selling price the place had on it was $160, but since it had been there a while it was marked down 50%.

Wonder if the Berkey filters will fit this, anyone know?

We managed to get most of our Christmas shopping done for the kids there, spent a bit of money, but we saved alot vs. buying them from retail stores.

Going back in a month or so to see what else they get in. I did see some solar panels, but they had just arrived and were close to retail price still.

A couple jars of All Natural Peanut Butter.
Several cans of Chef BoyArdee stuff.
Got my Solar Panel Kit from China Fright.... not the best, but it'll do for my needs. Already have the 12VDC deep cycle battery set up as a portable power source with 400 Watt inverter.
Cycled out two 5-gallon cans of 6/2010 stored E10 gas (treated each six months with Marine Stabil) and refilled the cans and retreated. Van is running fine.

I came into a bit of money totally unexpectedly. It was enough I could have paid off my last 7 payments of my mortgage with it. That was my first thought. My second was that, I really would like to have a barrett .50 cal semi auto. Just to shoot squirrels don't you know. Then I thought on it a bit more, and decided I had some things I wanted to do before winter froze something off my body that I couldn't replace or want to do without.
    .
so, ...... I bought 250 feet of SER 4/0 - 3CWG Aluminum service entrance cable so I can bring in 200 amp service to my new house under construction from my barn. This will make a world of difference in what I can accompish there, and make life much more comfortable. At least until the SHTF. about $800
    .
second purchase ..... I bought a high efficiency 85,000 btu Drolet Myriad wood stove from Northern tool, along with all the required accessories to install it about $1550
    .
third purchase ..... I bought $650 worth of building materials at Lowes, drywall, concrete backer board, pt plywood, studs, insulation, screws, etc etc
    .
Now I have to keep busy and keep moving forward with the construction at the best rate I can sustain for an olde phart.

Try planting some of them ;-) Seriously...my mother for at least 10-15years had a big glass jar of red kidney beans, and somehow it got opened and spilled earlier this year, so I threw them in the compost, and they SPROUTED! Almost every single one. Of course weather and critters made sure we didn't get any beans from them, but still...was interesting. Gonna plant some of those next year too, but this time on purpose :)

It's like my birthday and Christmas ( for several years ) all rolled together LOL

Can finally put a little money into the property - prior to this it was just a small shed and a couple hidden cache areas - now preparation can begin in earnest - maybe one of those sweet pumps that tacmotusn was talking about
