I have debated with myself over the last 2 -3 years about CCW/CHL license. I've decided NOT to get one. I'd prefer to stay under the radar as much as possible. Of course, I'm already a hit on radar due to a Title II firearm, but I needn't make more hits for the guys who run the radar.
If it comes to confiscation you are already screwed with any NFA items, they already have a red dot marking your house and probably figure you own additional weapons. If you have made purchases through dealers then they already know you own them (records will be destroyed after the background check, RIGHT!) Before I moved to OR I lived in a state where I could not get a CCW and carried there illegally anyway. I got my CCW's now for two reasons: 1 - If I ever get checked I will not get arrested and have my pistol taken away. 2 - If they ever decide to stop issuing them I am hoping to be grandfathered in.
Got my permit in the mail Saturday. Suddenly the wife has qualms about me carrying full time. We "discussed" it off and on all day Saturday. Began carrying Sunday afternoon with her grudging permission/acceptance. Yesterday she actually said......"I guess I was wrong in my impression of how it would be." Once I got up off the floor, I asked her what she meant. she said that she actually forgets I am carrying. Actually found herself thinking of it like an auto insurance card. I am very happy she came around. Glad to be a fully functional member of society now. Protecting myself and my family and not being a burden to the system. I feel like an asset, not a detractor.
Congratulations, she will get over it and you will get used to carrying. I don't even think about having my pistol with me and it's just like having a wallet when I go out.
Welcome to the world of Free Citizens. So, whatdja get for a sidearm ? Something plast-icky or ya go old school with a 1911 ?
I am currently carrying a Kel tec P11. Fits my needs for now and fit my budget to get one IN my hands right now.. Looking into some other handguns.
HB A P11 in the hand beats a .45 in the safe anyday. Just be sure to gets you a pocket holster and some premium boolets for that pea shooter. Best wishes!
That's what I carry when I go into the city. Have the clip on it and it fits great into my front pocket and it easily covered with an untucked tee shirt. Like LogOut said, get some good ammo. I use Remington Golden Saber 147 gr HP's.
I am using Hornady Critical defense. 115 gr. polymer filled hollow point. Hits a touch low (2-3") at ten yards but center of mass is center of mass.
I did not see any penetration stats for that load. You need to think that the person your shooting at might have thick clothing on or you might have to shoot through their hands or arms to hit the vitals and a bullet that penetrates deeper will hit the vitals. All of my pistols are loaded with the heaviest bullets I can get for them for that reason, although the recoil is harder.
