here is a simple question for the single people here

Here is the question ..

When bugging out are you ready to leave everything behind in your place if it the really the time to go ..

One of my friends made a comment about my basic plan to leave everything behind once i need to move and not come back for it at a later date and time because he asked me for a key to the place so he can get some of the items i leave behind if i leave for good dureing a bug out of the city ..

Because of how little i do keep in my place with just the basic liveing apt liveing items of a mattress along with box springs and metal bed stand and table and desktop computer and chair along with few dozen other odds and ends for eating and cooking in the place ..

I feel that i need to take what is need in the storage totes for travel need and that it and if i can not take those items then i not going to worry about the place and go saight to the cabin without a second thought on the apt ..

So does anyone else have that plan also

 

I'm single / divorced. I plan to stay in my location because I am outside of the suburbs. But I do have a plan to get the heck outta dodge in case the situation dictates. I have a 3 bedroom house and its fully furnished and I have my kid's rooms furnished etc etc. But if I have to head for the hills then I'm leaving everything that isn't in my plan. I do not plan on coming back for anything until all is well and calm. hopefully my stuff will still be here when the all clear is given but if not then I'm not concerned because it means I probably would've had a good fight to keep it if I stayed. Truth be told I might lose that fight and furniture and clothes are not worth my life.

 

while i am not single, I don't plan on getting outta dodge. They can have my place after I am out of bullets, arrows, Molotov cocktails, marbles and rocks and my knife breaks. but then again, i might just have to install a f it button that does the scorched earth thing.

By the time any roving hoard get to my place, the posers will have already met their makers. if they made it this far, they will be smart enough not to burn my house down as they will be destroying any chance of getting my preps along with it.

This place is my Alamo. Last man/woman standing, flip the switch.

 

I'm not single, but like stated above and I believe ghrit has said it before, we are in our Alamo.

 

You are 100% right, but it is the stuff we need to live the way we like and will die to keep it! If BO happens from the main site, daily fights will happen to get back. We are in the country and will be taking out many before we go.

 

My BOL is in Az right now and i'm working in LA area and have a studio apt in hollywood area and it basically a place to eat and sleep and clean up for work and the little down time i do have some days it a place to stage the supplies to my place when i go over to Az right now ..

The post was if you have a Bol all ready are you willing to walk away from everything inside you place and not worry about it that what i was trying to say

 

Sorry for going off topic. If your in LA you don't have much choice but to be ready to leave and take everything you need in one shot. Make sure you have the majority of your items already there. Look at what has happened in the riots there and you better be able to bail out ahead of the problem.

 

Gecko Survival

To me, survival is about living my life on the best terms that I can, until circumstances change and better opportunities present to enable me to live the life I would prefer to live. There are few things that I would risk my health and well being for, and fewer things that I would risk my life for. I would put my life on the line for my children and grand children, and would give consideration to risking it for my close kin, but I have no attachment to "things", beyond the utility that they offer for ensuring my survival. Once an inanimate "thing", no matter how precious or useful it may be becomes an obstacle or threat to my survival or those who are precious to me, then that "thing", whether it be a BOL, BIL, BOV, BOB, or whateverit is becomes dispensible.
　
Geckos are lizards who keep a store of fat in their tails for when times are lean, but when threatened by a predator will slough off their tail as a distraction, and will make their escape while the predator is focussed on the thrashing tail. The moral of the gecko's tale is that it's better to lose a fat tail, than one's life. A new tail after all can be grown, but once your dead, well...your dead.

Survival is about adaptability....if a lifestyle is unsustainable, then the odds are that one may die trying to keep it against all odds. The success of the withdrawals from Gallipoli were largely due to effective operational planning, operational security, masterly deception planning and the disciplined implementation of the operation by the soldiery at all levels. The whole ANZAC force was withdrawn from under the noses of the Turks, and the ANZAC troops were well on their way to a greater glory on the Western Front by the time the Turks had discovered that the ANZAC positions had been abandoned.

Concerning a retreat defence, my view is....be prepared to abandon it when the defence becomes untenable, withdrawing to a prepared firm base to recover, re-equip and if necessary re-arm, plan and implement alternative contingency plans...which, if appropriate, may include recapturing the lost retreat. A retreat with one entrance and at least three exit / withdrawal routes (some of which are concealed) is a good idea. It at least gives you options and greater opportunities for survivability.

 

Chell, I agree with what you are saying. I should have put in one of my above posts that the location where I live would be considered a BOL by most people, it's remote, isolated and defendable. The Alamo reference for people at their BOL means that they will probably die fighting for it before leaving, but leaving is always a last option if it’s not too late.[/FONT]

The timing of a withdrawal is always a decision requiring fine judgement...too soon and one may compromise what may have been an otherwise succesfull defence, conceding the prize of occupation unecessarily; on the otherhand, delaying too long can result in disengagement being impossible or very costly, with the prospect that if you have caused your opponent many casualties, that he may not keep prisoners other than to extort whatever he thinks he can profitably get out of them.

Ok maybe i'm just morbid or something but in a SHTF situation, I'm pretty sure that there are not going to be prisoners except for slave labor.

Great "stuff" "Veck". The Alamo was sacrificed only to gain time--not because they had any conviction that it could be successfully defended. There are several ways to approach defending one's "castle". One, you are staying and taking as many out as possible before meeting the end. Two, you stay as long as it is defendable then BO to your secondary location. Three, you leave prior to an engagement.

 

We are in the same position. I think most would be pretty happy having a BOL like our farm. We looked at farms for months before we found this place. It's all about location. I would rather fight on ground I know like the back of my hand than to fight on ground I don't know as well.

Correct and they should be based on the ways one will be attacked. I live on a mountain with steep (50 to 75 degrees) sides. Every 2-3 years or less (LOL) we get an ice storm and the yard resemblances a Braveheart battle field. We deposit the downed limbs where the terrain was easiest to climb and also easiest to drag the limbs there.

Survey the terrain, look for where nature has provided the easiest path and make it difficult or deny it. Make it defend-able.
To the preppers defending themselves against marauders stratagems or ruses de guerre will be needed. To deceive the enemy into giving you the advantage..

Because what I need is here I am staying here. If someone drives me off as I know the terrain I'll turn their lives into a living hell.
