The most likely SHTF scenario...

People like to trot out "economic collapse has happened before" - using the other countries in the world who have struggled through their own collapse as an example. Problem with that? The US economy was not the collapsed economy.

They trot out the Great Depression - "that was an economic collapse" they say. Bull Hockery. That was an economic depression, the US still held a gold/silver standard on the (even then) Fed issued currency. We still held a top spot in the world if only for the fact that our currency was backed by solid, hard, cold precious metals, and quite a bit of it at that. Not anymore, not since Tricky Dick yanked the Gold and Silver standard out from under our future.

We have to remember - a majority of the world's economies are tied so closely to the US Economy that a collapse here signals a huge failure worldwide.

The only reason countries like Argentina have operable infrastructure of any kind is because there are huge economies out there buying their oil and other exported goods, propping up a failed economy, we won't have that here...in point of fact, I think it will only be a matter of time post SHTF until the International Blue Hat Vultures come to try and pick our resource rich carcass.

Our problem is some of our elected representatives cannot live within our means.
We borrow 43 cents of every dollar we spend. Although it is one thing to borrow to buy a house and quite another thing to borrow to pay the electric and water bill.

Our problem runs a lot deeper than that.

We are governed by banksters who view the rest of us as no more than cattle in their fields here for them to profit by.

The "government" we "elect" is merely window dressing to mollify us into the illusion of freedom.

IrishMonk, You are correct, I do not have an instance to cite. But I do have a list of dominoes that are going to be decimated if the US defaults.

    http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/data-chart-center/tic/Documents/mfh.txt

China, Japan, UK, Brazil, Taiwan, Russia, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Canada, Luxembourg, Germany, Singapore, Thailand, Ireland, India, Mexico, Turkey, Belgium, South Korea, France, Poland, Netherlands, Italy, Philippines, Egypt, Israel, Colombia, Norway, Sweden, Chile, Australia, Malaysia and a few others collectively own 4.453 Trillion in our debt.

Chinese holdings have actually been dropping in the past few month.
but that's just about 1/3rd of the owners of our federal debt

through QEI and QEII the FED bought more of our US Treasury debt so the US govt owns a big chunk and that's a second third

Bond Mutual fund own another large portion of 'SAFE' AAA rated US Bonds
and through US savings bonds the US population and that's the last third.

while the graphic is dated, some of the values have changed especially the Chinese, you can still see the dominoes all lined up for failure.

    http://data360.org/pdf/20070327232843.Owners%20of%20U.S.%20National%20Debt.pdf

Our big old domino wheel o death. IF the US does not raise the debt limit; Which I have no doubt they will, You would see this wheel come off the wagon, the global economy would careen into a financial abyss.

Yes there have been other financial collapses over the years, but none of them, I repeat, None of them were so interconnected with the rest of the world, And None of them were considered a global reserve currency in which much of world looked to as a safe harbor, and which most commodities were priced in.

Just looking at population totals, Well over half of the planet would feel the financial meltdown. Sounds like a potential meteor strike to me.

We may avert this in the short term, but I can not be the only one that sees investing in US Debt obligations is not a very intelligent idea at least until 'we' get our financial house in order.

Another worry is what happens if large players decide that the USD is too unstable and that the FED can just print more and manipulate the global economy. The decide to abandon the USD at the reserve currency of choice and move to the Euro. Want to see what a worthless currency looks like? The US will have a lot in common with Zimbabwe.

Just my 2 copper clad zincs

All I am saying is is that ....... It is time to file federal bankruptcy and reorganize from scratch under the guidelines of the Constitution.

Upper management and anything not meeting Constitutional muster must go!

We are paralleling ancient Rome, and it fell which started the dark ages, and it took over 600 years to recuperate.

It took Europe as long to recuperate from losing Rome as it did the Romans.

Not too many actually know this, despite the architecture we have stolen and claim as our own and the symbolism found everywhere, to the Egyptian obelisks transported to key power centers all around the globe...we emulate the Roman system. And as for the Christians and other fanatics who get all bent out of shape over the use of the "all seeing eye", they have absolutely no idea what these symbols actually mean. The limit to their "intelligence" is best characterized by the fact that they can only perform a Google search to locate their knowledge, as opposed to really getting a hands-on look at the ancient documents or even the physical proof from 100 years ago. No, it seems in this modern day, they are limited by the convoluted thoughts and imaginings of some other guy who got his information from somebody else, who may or may not actually hold a degree of some type and managed to sucker Wikipedia into allowing his opinion to be published. What was I talking about? Oh yeah, Rome...

This is the Roman Fasces: [IMG]

And look where it ends up today: [IMG]

Watching the newly released ( we are in deep "doo doo") U.S. credit rating, now a "poor" thingy...Well, I'm impressed!
Whatever, however, let's just do it!
I'm tired of waiting...but then maybe I'm a fatalist by now?

i think itd cause a giant disturbance. Look how many people have their hands out for uncle sam to give them what they want. As soon as money is worthless how are the people that mooch the system going to eat? Us honest people will live through hard times, they will do whatever it takes, as will we. In bad neighborhoods people kill each other over a pair of sneakers or fight over the outcome of sporting events. Times have changed from the 1930's where money was scarce but people got by. America unfortunatly has turned into a group of greedy animals with no values.

While all of those may be a very real threat, I learned as a young lad to "keep my eye's on the ball" Serious question here which is who is keeping their eyes on the ball which translates to Iran during all of this supposed regime uprisings (my question mark key is not working) In other words, while all the gobt is watching the egypts and libias of the world, who is watching dick...d over in iran . Mmmmmm bet you arn't thinking of that either. Slight of hand trick which even O Stupid one is good at.
