Japan is making me rethink things

The recentvents in japan have made me really rethink things, and probably not in the way you expect.

I'm pretty amazed at he relative calm that has been reported so far with no widespread looting or riots. I had thought that the combo if events would have broken down society much further than what I have seen.

Do you think this is due to the Japanese culture/people?


If this had happened to California would Chaols be more widespread?

 

Culture has a HUGE impact on how people respond. See WWII America and compare that to the culture surrounding people now.

 

If this happened in Cali, or anywhere there are a large number of Gubbermint benefit recipients, the Chaos would be downright insane. Take in example three things: The Harlem Riots, The Rodney King Riots, and the aftermath of Katrina in New Orleans.

 

I considered starting an extremely politically incorrect thread about this exact thing. I would have called it something like "the benefits of cultural cohesiveness and minimal racial diversity" or some such...

Per Wikipedia, the ethnic makeup of Japan is as follows: 98.5% Japanese, 0.5% Korean, 0.4% Chinese, 0.6% other. The first number is the only one that matters. (I know there is stratification within the Japanese population, but nothing like that which divides whites, blacks and hispanics in America.) The absence of looting, arson and other crime in Japan is, in my opinion, due entirely to the fact that Japan is a mono-cultural and mono-racial nation.

Two events others have already mentioned leave me pessimistic about how things will play out here in America. First is 9/11, in the aftermath of which we briefly looked like a civil society. For a moment I thought America might pull back together, but that civility unraveled quickly. In retrospect, it's clear that nothing really changed, and my perceptions of togetherness were mostly due to certain groups wisely staying quiet for a few weeks. Since then, our divisions are not just back - they have grown much worse.

The second event is, of course, Katrina. The lesson I draw from that is what to expect from America's growing dependent class when the transfers they believe themselves entitled to finally disappear.

Japan is quite fortunate to have remained one people and one culture.

Well thanks for bumming me out. Maybe we should change our bug out plans to just getting to japan.

I agree with Falcon.

If this happened in the USA, I'd be worried as much about whether I have enough ammo as I would about food & water.

Unfortunately, we have a predictable history when disaster occur--and looting and bad guys acting out are the most obvious bad side of this.

 

If this happened in the California, I'd be stressed about keeping my family safe even though I live sooo far away from there. I know my mother would break down because we have family there. I know this is something we all have to face in a sense so that we can be prepared, but thinking about it make me sick. The severity of what happened in Japan happening here...God.

Forgive me, still kinda new to prepping...

 

It's a cultural thing. There is very little street crime in Japan. Really a lot of Americans are the same way, look at the differences between the flooding in Nashville vs. Katrina and how the locals acted, much different, much different culture of people.

It has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the culture, morals and the way people are brought up. The sad thing is no matter where you live if the SHTF there are going to be dregs of society in every state and town. Some places will be much worse I am sure.

On a side note, there was a case in Japan where people went to an evacuation center, not related to the current incident, this happened years ago, and several women were raped. There is also a problem with girls being molested on packed subway trains. It's a weird contradiction really, very low street crime and no looting but women are molested on a regular basis on trains.

 

A remote location is the best protection. A monkey said that.

 

How many needless murders have happened over a pair of tennis shoes, sports apparel or any other highly sought after item?

Look at how some people in this country act over being first in line at a Black Friday sale at Wal-Mart.

Ever had somebody about push you over trying to get in front of you at the grocery store.

As others had mention about natural disaster and riots that have taken place. Now imagine today's society in complete turmoil with shortages of food, water and/or fuel on a national scale. Society has gone mad.

Make sure to stock up on ammo along with all your other provisions. You just might need it some day.

We can only wish our country had the same mannerisms and respect for one another as Japan. Japan is way more civilized than we are, sad indeed.

In 65 Hurricane Betsy did the same thing to New Orleans. Then it's population was 1.5 million, it was mostly a middle class city, And president Johnson's welfare society hadn't come into play yet.

People helped people, family helped family, Church's and the Boy Scouts sent teams and troops in to help everybody. You didn't have the death toll because thousands of people with boats went and evacuated the people on the roofs.

Jump to 2003. NO is population approx 700,000, with a large majority of that being of entitlement mentality. Johnson's "new society" is going strong. People believe that it's the government JOB to take care of them. They shouldn't even have to walk to the shelter, someone should come get them. Actually the Super dome was taken OFF the list of shelters because when Hurricane George came though ,even though it was a nonevent, those people did 3 million dollars worth of damage in 12 hrs.

Most people don't know that after Katrina, there was a line 2 miles long of people with boats wanting to help, but weren't allowed in. The news didn't tell you, that annex building next to the dome, there were people waiting for relief, had the same supplies as the dome, but did the cleaning themselves, were orderly etc, didn't have any deaths or crime.

When the first set of "evacuees" hit Gonzales, LA (about 40 miles north of NO) those people started roaming the neighborhoods breaking into cars etc. My son lives about 8 miles from that center, had no issues till the evacuees started in his neighborhood.

When the evacuees hit Baton Rouge the SRT team had to be call out the to stop the robbing and stealing. My Son called me from his wife's office. They had shutdown downtown BR but his wife couldn't leave. All the cops were tied up. He followed my instructions, got him and his wife out of there, then forted up with other family members.

The point behind this story is, that people that or raised up with morals and responsibility, weather adversity, and act calmly, and with charity.

Those that aren't, well that act like heathens. Everyone needs to evaluate their area, HONESTLY! Be prepared for what will come.
