4 Cartridges We Can't Live Without

here is my personal list of cartridges that i can not live without ..

177.cal pellet caliber for the air rifle for pratice as need and pest control as it need
22.long rifle caliber for pratice rifle and pistol kits
223 rifle caliber for self defense rifle
308 caliber for hunting and long range needs
38.special-caliber for back up handgun
45.acp for main shtf handgun

 

177 pellet rifle (varmints and small game) Does not count as a cartridge
22 (close range hunting)
308 (large game hunting)
12 gauge (small and big game hunting)
45 (personal protection)

Oh hell, why not. I think Quigs has it pretty well covered for rifles and for his area of operation. In his area a pistol in my way of thinking is a sidearm, and not a primary weapon of defense or offense. For many there it could be for everyday or not, like a knife. My only disagreement with his choices would be the 22-250. While 4100fps is awesome, unless things have changed drastically since my youth, it still eats barrels. Throat wash is what its called, and after a certain number of rounds accuracy is gone and a new barrel is in order. 5.56x45 was only a gleam in the eye of certain military designers, but .223 remington was killing chucks at 300 yards and beyond at 3300fps and you could shoot the same gun forever with no throat wash. jmho. so for me it would be .22rf, .223rem, .308win, .375h&h. By the way, my birthday is in July, and I don't yet have the .375h&h

In the swamps of the south, the eastern woods and mountains, and the cities, things are a little different. Different calibers and weapons may better serve. Shotguns and Pistols will have more significance. In the cities Pistols and ccw rule. Shotguns and Rifles would have the local Gestapo on you in minutes or seconds. I think I am done now.... I need my morning coffee!

Because they will handle the full range of any situation you're likely to run into, from self defense to hunting, and ANY decent country store has them on the shelf.

Then 9mm or 45 for personal carry, depending on your own POV.

Then 223, 38/357, .17 pellet, 762x39.

22.250 ( and yeah, I have one ) would barely make my top 10.

I guess this is what Ford found out when they quit painting them ALL black, huh ?

 

.22 - Same as everyone else, light easy to use, very versatile
.9mm Pistol and carbine fodder. JHP rounds have excellent ballistic performance at close ranges.
.308 - Varmints of all stripes to medium game.
12 gauge 00 buck and slug. 00 for most applications (its like shooting a 9mm MG on Auto...7-9 9mm projectiles going downrange in an effective spread...), and slug for BIG nasties, after all a 12 gauge slug is a 18mm CANNON round. Hell the blunt force trauma alone is enough to make a big meanie back off.

My cant live withouts:

.40 s&w my side-arm cartridge.
.38+p My backup side arm cartridge.
12 Gauge, self -defence, Birds, and Bears.
.308 win for hunting big game and self-defence.
50 bmg for long range defence
7 mm remington mag for long distance hunting

 

Not true on two points. QS even listed 6 rifle cartridges 22rf, 22-250, 30-06, 308, 375H&H and .338 RUM. Although the last 4 were listed as either or pairs.

I on the other hand, listed only 22rf, 223rem, 308win, 375H&H.
