New show on the discovery channel tonigh called sons of guns about Will Hayden who owns red jacket firearms in Baton Rouge, Lousiana. In tonights first episode he took an ordinary saiga 12 and added a 4 section silencer/suppressor to it. I can see the wheels a turnin in your heads now, and some of you need to squirt a little 3 in 1 oil in there cause the gears are squeaking. Anyhow The suppressor is a success, Got the 12 from around 175 decibels down to 144 decibels. The suppressed Saiga 12 sells for 2,500.00 $$$$$$$$. put the wallets away boys I'm not finished yet. In the second 30 minute episode of the show he gets approached by a local swat team leader about building a "master key". Simply put a "master Key" is a shotgun attached to a m-16, much like a vietnam era grenade launcher. They did this also successfully. They attached a Saiga 12 less the stock on the backside and with a wonderful little 8" barrel. this puppy will set you back 3,500.00 $$$$$$$$$$$. Now it is time to pull your wallets boys........................... Next week they are rebuilding a ww2 era Flame thrower and no clue on the second show........but one thing interesting they played with tonight, a cival war era cannon built in 1862 and last shot in 1865. They ran tests upon the barrel(sonnegram) to look for any imperfections in the pouring of the barrel. The barrel did have imperfection which could turn the cannon into 2,500lbs of shrappnel, but they fired it anyhow two shots and no catastrophic failure.......so hense the shows will go on.
Broker i figured you would be one of the guys checking your wallet to see if you could get those wonderful toys.
I watched this. He's a talented guy...although his daughter is quite annoying. But, I guess this is intended for drama. Those guys seem to really like the Saiga shotguns......
The Siaga is just so versitile, they are doing things with it that wouldnt be tried with an 870 or an 1100. I mean theres one company (Alliance), that builds the sucker out with a 30 round drum magazine you can get it with a box magazine. I think this may not be the only shotgun thats so versitile this new Kel-tec shotgun may well be the frankenstein style shotgun that can be changed/modified till you just cant do no more to it cause it will have everything but the kitchen sink. Myself I would love to have a Saiga 12 thats been doctored by both the guys at Alliance and Mr Hayden at red jacket. The deer wont ever know whats coming or what just hit them. To me the addition of the 30 round mag would be great for me when I'm Goose/duck hunting. It would be like putting up some short range AAA fire.......LOL.......LOL........LOL. I just cant wait till next wednesday to see it and Black ops brother's, Howe & Howe tech. The only problem is the more i watch shows like this The better I wish i would have done in math and Science in school so I could do stuff like that. But don't we all end up just kicken ourselves in the hind-end for something similer in our lives.
My comment was neutral. I was merely pointing out that, with the exception of the cannon, they were working on shotguns the whole time and they happened to be Saigas. I did not imply they were bad.
Red Jacket is kind of known for their AK work. I thought it was cool that it was in my home town. Mad because they (Red Jacket) didn't open till AFTER I retired and moved away.
is it me, or were those guys not informed that the addition of a shotty on a rifle was already done. Or perhaps was it that they were going to make their own version? I don't know. They just looked surprised to ever hear of such a thing with the exception of the owner. M26 Modular Accessory Shotgun System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It was a civilian swat master that came to Will to build it for him Maybe He was just unaware such a system already existed in military garb. Looks as though the military has not been using such a system that long though, but of course it has not been the militaries duty to play police force to the world untill AL-CIADA came on the seen. Someone should have seen A long time ago that such a weapons system be available for Civilian police force actions such as going into a house to take down a perp.......
Myself I really enjoyed both episodes.......so yeah I'm watching, just wish they would make it a true hour long show instead of two half hour shows. and I wish they would get a little more into the technicle standpoint. but then i have the same argument with Black ops brothers.
Will is a great guy I've had many talks with him over the years and he is what ya see on the show . Discovery Insider
I know, the first thing I though of was the movie Praetor. That is the first time I've seen a Sagia mounted that way.
Episode 3 and 4 of suns of guns........episode 3 was not as good as the first 2 because will was ready to restore a 1942 era vintage Flamethrower, He just did not want to test the weapon as to its viability to work properly. Come to find out will almost burned up in a house fire, So I can understand him being skiddish about a testfire of the weapon. He got over it and ran a successful test for the owner of the flamethrower, of which was the very same man whom had used the weapon against the japanese back in ww2. After Will tested it and it worked perfectly by the way, the owner wanted to try it. So he got suited up,put the flamethrower on and actually worked it better than will did. In the 4th episode Will was brought a MA DUECE, in fact it was a Virgin kit from 1942 or 43, They had to do a total assembly of the big browning .50. They had to call in some expert on the ma duece (he had built like 20 of them), once they got the browning together, they took it out for a test fire, of course with a virgin gun like that you are going to have some problems, and they sure enough did. after just One shot the big browning locked up. they got it fixed, got it going again, fired off 5 or 6 rounds, jammed again, got the gun going again no more problems must have put close to 500 rounds through it. everything from tracers on up to armor piercing stuff. they were successful at starting a small grass fire. In order for will to get to keep this gun They had to sell 25,000.00 dollars worth of firearms, well Stephanie, the daughter of Will Hayden got the job done, in just 3 sales, part of the 3rd sale she traded one gun for a nightime bow-fishing trip into the swamp. She did manage to get two fish one being a small gar. agter that was the test fire of Ma Duece. Overall both episodes were pretty good, I have found something i can actually watch on wednesday night and not get sick of seeing the same old crap on TV. Disciple; out
That's because the feed plate was on right/left hand feed and needed to be flipped. I have seen a lot of guys place it in wrong when they reassemble the weapon. It takes only a few seconds to extract the bolt and flip the plate around and reassemble. Of course, only actual owners of these babies who are committed to knowing everything about them, and military armorers know things like this. For us, it's all too easy.
They are even better now that they finally designed it to not require head spacing and timing. The problem is, that much of the military still do not have the upgraded models. With the drastically lowered IQ of the general populace and the gangsters the Army is now employing as stock, it's kinda important to get the newer version out there. I was in an infantry company once when I witnessed dozens of problems per month and a few really bad explosions from poor M2 .50cal operation.
