ODFW no longer represents hunters and fishermen

The new rules and regulations that ODFW is presenting concerning dog training and hunting is very evident that the people that sit on the ODFW commission have never hunted with dogs or have shot a gun for that matter. These people are appointed not by their knowlege of the sport or the credentials at improving the population of game animals. They are appointed by politicians who are elected and this very blue state has had very left wing extremist governors for the past many years.

The ODFW has transformed itself into a political action group to serve the needs of the far lefts base of animals rights groups and gun control groups.

Its just a matter of time before hunting with dogs is illegal, hunting with guns is illegal, and the cost to hunt will exclude just about every American.

What is ironic about the whole thing is the ODFW is paid for by hunters and fishermen via licenses. Us hunters have no say so ever about who is appointed.

The ODFW has been tasked with spotted owls and wind turbines than on improving the amount of available game. We should all be outraged at what this has become and seek to change the way it operates.

Non huntersmight begin paying fees by 2012 to use most state lands under the management of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

During its monthly meeting in Portland on Friday, the state Fish and Wildlife Commission will consider a proposal to phase in parking fees for 12 wildlife management areas by 2014. They include Sauvie Island's state-owned wildlife area, the only one currently charging a daily use fee of $7 ($22 annually). The fee covers motor vehicle parking only, regardless of the number of occupants.

Hunters, who also currently pay to park on Sauvie Island during hunting seasons, will instead be permitted to park free at all of the wildlife management areas, including the island.

Most of the department's wildlife management areas were purchased and are managed with hunting license and tag fees and Oregon's share of federal excise taxes on arms and ammunition.

They are, however, open to the public, and more and more nonhunters are visiting each year. The fee is an attempt to raise management funding from the bulk of the areas' non-paying users.

Anglers would also be required to have the parking permits, unless they hold combination hunting/fishing licenses.

The wildlife areas and proposed phase-in schedule: 2012: Denman, E.E. Wilson, Ladd Marsh, Summer Lake and continued fees at Sauvie Island; 2013: Klamath, Fern Ridge, White River, Phillip W. Schneider; 2014: Elkhorn, Columbia Basin, Jewell Meadows.

So not surprised. Unless the rules have changed since my mother and I looked into it, you don't need a hunting license if you're doing it on your own property. However, you still need tags. But you can't get tags unless you have a license, so what's the point?

F the ODFW!!! I used to buy the Sports Pac every year but not anymore starting this year. Their fee increases every year without any change in hunting conditions really started to piss me off. I now only buy a combo hunt/fish license because I use some of the state places and might be checked. Anywhere else I'm on my own, you figure it out!
