I'm interested in our current community of preppers. No ulterior motives, no analysis of data will be done, just interested
Interesting results so far. I hope more of you will jump in on this. So far it seems that the Over 50 crowd is most heavily represented but no young 'uns yet.
I think the youngen's are I think the youngen's are too busy playing HALO rather than preparing for hell on earth. Maybe I'm a bit harsh, but I suspect that the Gen X, Gen Y and the playstation generations have in the main not experienced the relative tough times of WWII and the immediate post war period, nor have they had much interaction with those who lived through the Great Depression or earlier, when life WAS hard. THeir whole experince has been living in a world where the infrastructure of civilisation has been largely and continuously intact, and where affluence and the ready availability of consumer commodities has rarely been interrupted. I do understand, that some in the latter generations have experienced grinding poverty, for various reasons, but that grinding poverty may be in a general environment of boom time affluence. I think the older monkeys, though not paranoid about the prospects of good economic times disappearing, are reasonably realistic in recognising, that civilisations and the economies that support them go through cycles of boom and bust....it is the wise man and woman, who prepares for the worst, but lives for the best. This site performs a valuable service in perhaps exposing the casual browsers to knowledge as to the risks and hazards of being unprepared for whatever disaster may potentially befall them, and offer informnation, advice, support and encouragement if they actually want to do something about it. We as a community can not do much more than that.
This is getting scary chello - we agree twice in one day! As much as we try to pass concern for the uncertainties of life on to the younger ones in our lives, I agree that, for the most part. they haven't experienced it. They may listen to our stories and warnings with interest but it isn't part of their reality yet. As much as I hope it never is their reality, we all know that they will go through periods of deprivation during their lives. It is part of the cycle of life. My biggest concern is that they are learning to rely on society and governmental intervention to save them from what may come.
Sorry M but that is the way it is - one day you're 36 and the next day you're 50. It's not as big a leap as you think
I guess when I was in my late 20's and 30's I would not be spending more than a cursory amount of time checking this site out if it existed back then. At that age you have an attitude of invincibiltiy and that you will handle whatever comes along. Maturity may not give you wisdom, but it does give you a better realization of how frail the human existence is.
Isn't that the truth. Now that I'm creeping up on 50, I'm thinking maybe that isn't as old as I once thought.
We've had a few... I was born into this lifestyle but didn't start my own preps/mindset until I was around 24.
Bump. I think that these numbers will remain mostly the same, as it is a decent reflection of what we actually have (active) on the forums. We are mostly male, OLD(er), long term preppers, and believe the Monkey is helpful.
We're not exactly pioneers but I think, as a group, we all share that pioneering spirit - the mindset of self-determination. Around my area it is called the Old Yankee spirit but it has been around since the beginning of mankind - the belief in ourselves.
I BELIEVE IN YOU, MAN! [W1] As for the "Jesus" guy, eh... ahhahaha, oh I love this emote so much. Sorry.
I am in the over 60 part of the over 50 group. However, I sort of act as the anchor for those caching at my place and for whom it is the bugout destination (most are within about 30 mles). This includes 2 of my kids (with spouses...or is it spice?), one grandkid (also with spouse) 2 bros-in-law (1 with spouse) and 4 local friends. They range in age from 23 to mid 40s.
36 to 50 is the blink of an eye but 50 on is warp speed. The day I realized I was the matriarch of my family, in more than just years and existence, was a memorable time. I've always tried to meet life head on but that day I undestood that it had ceased being an option and become an imperative.
I myself being in the over 50 crowd, in fact over 60 would still rather remain a fighter right up until the very end then just sit and wait to die. I think being a survivor also says you have always been a fighter and not the ones trying to not be noticed . I have ran into a few of the arm chair Rambo's here, but not as bad as a couple of other places. I think to them survival is but another game. We, as the older , wiser and still kicking group hopefully will never need our preps other then a blizzard, flood etc but do really believe that the younger people will most certainly need them.
It isn't surprising to see the "over 50" group as the largest group. Being in our 60, we have more "Life Experiences" behind us and have seen how "things can go wrong" more than other groups. For most of us over 60 here in the US have lived long enough to see the progressive deterioration of our country and culture and it worries and upsets us. We have seen our families and our friend's families go through the bad times more than have younger people. It's just a part of the aging process. Most of us on the older side tend to be a little more realistic about life and our expectations of both the government and other people. We also tend to be more realistic in our perspective of ourselves and our abilities an inabilities.
we are also the last group with out the need for imediate gratification... we will wait paitently and gather what we need all a long and not try to do it in one fell swoop...
eh, to play devil's advocate here.. It's the 50 somethings that raised the 30 somethings.. Says something about thier parental technique? just sayin..ccc..
