It's surprisingly high in the forum stats and I wonder if it's guest traffic or members. We have some options on a forum skin or possible app and I want to gauge the interest.
Need An App in the iTunes App Store If there were a Survival Monkey Forum App in the iTunes App Store it would be a big hit--especially if it were free. "Free" may actually become a cash flow source since Apple has introduced iAds so that providers of Apps can continue to offer their Apps for free.
That's kinda what I'm trying to gauge interest in. tapatalk offers a custom branded app in both app stores for $999 plus $100 a year. They're insane. forumrunner offers the same service, SM app with our logo as an app for $249 a year, $349 a year both stores. vBulletin is getting ready to release their own custom branded App service and they haven't announced the price yet. Would likely be the best interfact for a vB forum. Of course, the app would be in the app stores for free to users. Looking at is as a user growth tool over a $$ tools. Then again, I we had hundreds of thousands downloading it, .99 might be a nice price point... If I can ad adverts to guest views only (like we do here), it may be worth it. Adsense served only to guests covers almost all of the expenses here these days. Below is a snap of the past 30 days of mobile visitors. Granted, 1924 amounts to less than what we get every day but it's a growing market. I agree that having an app might make that number grow. Oh yeah, if you vote other, tell me what it is although the only 2 markets that make these app worthwhile are Apple and Google.
There are still a few of us dinosaurs out here than manage to get by without mobile "things". Will the mobile folks have advantages that dinosaurs don't, other than mobility?
No, just the ability to be away from the desk and still check forum posts, private messages, etc. It's actually a limited view but you get the same gist of the activity on the forum. It's a lifesaver at meetings Here's a few screenshots of the monkey viewed on app called tapatalk:
This just hit the Apple app store: vBulletin Mobile for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store Testing now but this is exactly what a SM app created by vB would look like although it would connect here.
Ouch. Company is moving from AT&T to Verizon and I lose my iPhone. Wife told me 'it's just a phone'. Yes it is but it's also my pocket computer. Need to go buy an iPad...
I went from a razor (no net surfing) to a blackberry.. I played with it for a month, did very limited surfing.. I found it very cumbersome.. After a couple of years of the hype, I switched to iPhone, it is such a big difference. Tapatalk is an awesome forum tool.. I still despise apple, make a good product though..
