Great Post! What I'm looking for is a company that sells converters. What I need one for is my satellite internet modem. We use 13.8v dc system, what I need is a converter that goes from 13.8v to 30v dc at 2.5 amps. Anyone know where I can buy of these? Thanks Dan
Hi Dan . Well my satalite modem plugs right into the wall. Yours seems to be set of for 12 volt. I believe the 30 volts is ok with a 24 volt system. I am not sure, so please check this out first. Other then that you will need a step up transformer. I know the xantrax charge controlers can do this but you really need to keep looking or ask some other people first. What kind of satalite internet provider do you use ? I use wild blue
I believe you'll not do well with a transformer, DC to DC, unless it is pulsating, and even that will require a "special." Nadja, you are on AC via the inverter from DC. Dan is straight DC if I read the tea leaves correctly. His internet modem is designed convert 120vAC to 30v internally, again if I understand all I think I know. His 13.8 (nominally 12vDC) won't get there from here, he needs an AC input to the modem. Tell me I'm wrong, if I am. Also, FWIW, a 12vDC system should be right at 13.8 volts when fully charged if it's a lead acid battery system or one that emulates the standard 12 volts. I suspect that you are right that 30 volts is OK with a 24 volt system, since that would be right at the fully charged voltage of a 24 volt lead acid system. (Think OTR truck and off road equipment starter electrics.)
Wild Blue, I live a 12V world as much as I can, the ac wall transformer is 110v AC to 30V DC 2.5 amps THanks Dan
Dan , why don't you call wild blue and see if they have a transformer for you. This is just one of the reasons I always suggest that you convert your dc voltage to ac right off the bat. Good Luck.
