I've been approached by a company that would want me to move to either the Winston Salem area of NC or Nashville, TN. I'm doing all the cost of living, quality of life etc comparisons now but for some strange reason those sites never cover firearms, hunting or SHTF issues. Anyone here that has lived in both states have a personal preference for one over the other? Thanks
I live in TN, what information are you looking for regarding firearms & hunting? There is no state income tax, so we have a higher sales tax (my area it's 9.25% on just about everything). Sales tax can vary by city and county slightly. After Kartina a law was passed forbidding the confiscation of firearms in a disaster. HCP is a shall issue after completing the required class and fingerprinting. We can open or conceal carry, also with your HCP you can keep a loaded long arm in your vehicle as long as there is no round in the chamber.
that's the kind of info I'm looking for, in addition to general this is why I like it here type stuff. I know NC had an issue with gun grabbing on several forums before the last hurricane scare. thanks
Isn't TN following Montana on that whole "if it's made in TN and doesn't leave TN, it's none of the Feds business"? Not sure if anyone's tested it yet but it deals with firearms and suppressors. I was in TN for 10 years and found it to be generally gun friendly although KY was much much better.
Yeah, I think so, can't remember if it's passed or not. If it has passed there's been no testing the waters yet that I know of.
Boy that could be seriously detrimental to the checking account with barrett and predator custom both being located in TN.
LOL. Predator did a ceramic coating on one of my Barretts... pics here:http://www.survivalmonkey.com/forum/firearms/1899-barrett-99-lot-pics.html
I'm kind of stuck in michigan right now. if i get to move. It's TN and prolly west and south of nashville. spent a couple of weeks looking for a position / property and played around with the daily commuting options. if you have to commute into or through the center of the city, well you are not going to be a happy camper. if you wind up working in nashville your not going to want to live east of it due to the airport being there. if you work in franklin (where i was interviewing with potential employers) living south or west of nashville easy commute the country is freaking beautiful. if you can stand a 45 mile commute the property is dirt cheap (compared to michigan). And the property taxes where dirt cheap IMHO. Cost of living: Compare prices in two cities - CNNMoney.com Compare Two Cities, City Profile Report, City Comparison Tool HomeFair.com: "Error" YMMV.
The property taxes on my 2600 sqft home on 9 acres were around $575 a year 45 minutes SE of Knoxville. This home sold for $420K in 2008.
I grew up in TN. It's always been pro-gun. In recent years (last 8 or so), there is a stronger pro-gun stance it seems like. Hell, even the democrats in TN are pro-gun now. It's a great place to live. I grew up in the Murfreesboro area (back when it still had a small town feel). Went to MTSU. More than likely, I will be coming home next year for good.
I'd rather pay 10% sales tax over 10% State income tax. I'd never spend 10% of my income in sales tax in a splurging year...
