Here I have made a Cow bone needle. First I split the bone using a large stone. Then did the basic shaping with my knife I then used a small awl I forged to start boring the eye out,I used the tip of my knife using a circular motion until I was happy with the size of the eye. To finish I used a small flat stone which was wet and rubbed the needle on this to shape and sharpen. Tools used.

Definitely cool. Thanks for the encouragement to keep making stuff on my own! But...I know you used a jigsaw and a belt sander. C'mon, you can't fool me!!!

I know how we can force him to make them even smaller and smoother...give him a week to make his finest needle. Then we'll hold him down and give him some stitches with it! Muahahahha <-- Very diabolical laugh Byte
Never having done anything like this before, I have a question about the eye. Did you have a problem with the bone wanting to crack or splinter?

Since we’re talking bones and needles,, I’ll throw this in the mix. Years ago,while visiting with a buddy up in the mountains of NC, along with a buddy of ours from Ga. Well, to add a little comedy to the addition of useful info ,, I don’t want to upset any of our women folk here. Anyway, our mountain bro wore a straw cowboy hat with pins and stuff on it. He had a toothpick he had stuck in the hat. It was about 3inches long with a slight curve to it. My Ga bro asked him what it was. He said it was a coon dick bone. Who’da thunk a coon dick had a bone in it. It did look like it would make a good toothpick ,, and now thinking back,, with an eye bored into one end of it ,, a needle. So being the smartass my Ga bro was /is , he said to our mountain ,,, “ So it can be said that you’ve had a dick in your mouth “ ,,, That started a little fight that me and Ga bro was laughing to hard to participate in.
