Many of those encourage conflict "lies", etc. and can rarely be used in a way that jibes with the CoC.
In 5 years, the only time I can recall having seen that used (as well as many others) is tongue in cheek and meant as levity. You are a relative newcomer to the monkey so our history of good humor may not be quite as apparent to you as it is to those of us who have know one another for many years.
fortunateson, I have no interest in engaging in the proverbial contest so I will leave you to your opinion. I, as well as the other mods, I am sure, appreciate hearing your views on our emoticons.
A question has arisen about of some of our emoticons so I thought I would break those posts off from another thread and open the discussion up to the members.
I use them more in a sarcastic tone than anything else. I think this follows the same law of "choose your words wisely".
I enjoy emoticons and find them an important part of imparting a "tone" to the written word" . There are emoticons I would never use in regular posting ( there are Emoticons I have never used but I don't want any deleted.
I like the emoticons, actually copy some of them to use on other forums that only have basic emoticons. Haven't needed to use them here though. If there's one thing I can't stand its people that are so politically correct that they supposedly get offended by things like emoticons. Don't let the PC police take away the emoticons. Having said that, I would like to suggest that you add my favorite emoticon not that I would use it, I generally like to trap said AH using their own words. It's nice to have though, just in case.
There are some emoticons that should not be used outside the Inferno, and as long as they don't get misused, the library will not be reduced. I'll talk to the EmotiChief and see if we can add it.
Since I started this I'll weigh in. It's not a matter of being PC. The board has a CoC. Generally everyone is gentlemen and ladylike. I think that's more of a function of the quality of people here rather than the idea that people keep a copy of the CoC taped to their computer OR Mods that are heavy handed (because they're not). Things rarely get ugly (with one recent exception ) That's why I've stuck around. I have no patience for the rowdier internet boards. That said, I don't see how someone can use and stay within the CoC. I think Ghrit said it. There's a time and place for that type of conversation and I'm cool with that. JMHO
+1 I think we are all adults and most of the posts are made with noble intentions and certainly tongue lodged squarely in cheek..Just as you wouldn't take a dump in aunt tilley's living room we respect each other enough to realize there's no reason to get hard and mean on a fellow cage dweller. or the facilities in general.
"If it aint broke..."well you know... You ever been in a restaurant and got a really great cup of coffee and after a few sips you get the condiments just right and it has fallento the perfect temperature; and the waitress walks over and tops it off without being hailed. She think she's offering exceptional service, but it has the opposite effect. Don't doo dat... Give it time you'll see we have a very nice mix of conservatives and liberals (???) who mostly can share the same room without killing each other. occasionally we even learn from each other. what we don'twant is over regulated nanny state hand holding. peace bra'
I think we all have our own personal favorites. I'm partial to the dancing banana and ROFLMAO - they usually cover my feelings pretty well. Tracy favors the batting eyes while CRC is known for her flirty upskirt. Tango3, on the other hand, liberally spices up his posts with a wide variety of smilies, just to keep us amused. We have all been known to toss a slightly off-colored one in on occasion but only when we can't seem to stop our fingers on that keyboard!
My name is Tracy[batteye] and I'm an emoticon fan. There are some (tho' not many) that I haven't used. I don't recall ever having seen the "licker" (nope - not gonna'!) one used. I will admit as a personal opinion; I do not like that one, but will not deny its use by others. ...hat - too funny! I probably won't use that one, either, but it sure brings a giggle. Hooray for the not gay wave!
Maybe you should try and search and research it, we use it when talking about new firearms on the market, or a new Motorcycle, car etc. its only your perception in your own head that gives it definition which you seem to be giving it something i was not. If you have nothing to do better than pick apart the smiley list, then I would say in return you would never be satisfied with any change and would pick apart more if we dropped that one smiley at you're request. At the end of the day You have the option to not view the post's or that particular smiley.
