I'm in awe...My eldest grandaughter just got her senior year class schedule. AP Physics, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, Honors Statistics, and honors philosophy and honors spanish.

She wants to go to medical school and is an excellent student, obviously.

I loved physics but merely survived calculus and chem in high school. Didn't take statistics or philosophy until college. Hated statistics, loved philosophy.

Good for her, RH! And kudos to her parents, and you, who I am sure had a hand in guiding her, and helping her become the wonderful young lady she is today! :)

Shamelessly stolen from another preparedness site (I love #2):
Top 10 responses to "Oh, if something bad happens, I'll just come to your house!"

    10. Not without six months of your own supplies, you won't.

    9. Yeah, your family means so little to you, I'll be sure to pick up your slack. Why don't you bring all your credit card debt while you're at it.

    8. Sweet! We needed a decoy to walk the wire and be the first person shot!

    7. Just be sure you show up with a ladder. Not sure how many corpses you'll have to climb over.

    6. I may give you the shirt off my back, but try to take it, and I can only spare half a buck worth of subsonic copper hollow-points.

    5. Hey, bring all the barter goods you want - I love to haggle. A roll of TP will get you past the dogs.

    4. Be sure to bring some good boots, cuz you'll be up to your ankles in horse crap earning your keep.

    3. Fine by me. I hear people taste like chicken.

    2. Make sure you come early - the first five help me shoot the next fifty.

    #1 is a tie:

    1. "Don't do that, Mommy will just shoot you and make Daddy bury you in the backyard." (Are my kids great or what?)

    1. "What, you thought I was gonna bunker down somewhere people can find me?" (Note found in my empty house)

Most of us are lucky enough to have that one special friend with whom we can pick up a conversation after a year's absence. I talked to mine tonight and it was like coming home.

Out of the mouths of babes:

So my daughter says to me, "Isn't is scary how they're trying to make people more like robots and robots more like people?"

Interesting observation from such a young perspective.

"WE" had an incident of sorts here friday afternoon, about 6 pm. It involved 5-6 Phoenix police cars and at least 8 officers. Seems that "someone" made some threats to "commit suicide", and it was overheard by someone on a phone conversation. Probabaly, a damned good thing too.
The results are/were bad, to say the least, for me and the rest.
Not exactly sure what the outcome will be even now, as it has been satisfed to the police and local authorities inquiries....But, the incident remains fresh and foremost in everyone's minds...It was found out later on, that this was NOT the first event of this type, but this was the first "exposed" to the public and the authorities....
The people involved directly with this NEVER once saw fit to tell anyone, or come forward with any information....(and they call themselves ADULTS!) I am not sure what the final outlook is, but it is apparent that a certain amount of cohesion and certainly any TRUST has now been negated. My oldest son, the deputy here, is not at all happy, and is as upset as I am over this mess. It did involve a weapon, but it was NOT discharged, ( not even loaded thank GOD!).....It could have escalated into 1 of 2 scenarios, both of which would have been horrendous. I intervened as soon as I was able and defused the situation, took away all weapons and I kept the Police quite happy, as they did not have to enter an house with someone reported to have a loaded weapon, and threatening. As it now stands, there are only 2 or maybe 3 of us left. All plans to make the April move, have been scrapped.
Yes.. It happened in My home, with my son, and his girlfriend.
All I could do was to intervene and remove the problem.
Now my 20 year old has ruined his life....And has smeared my name in the process.
At first I thought it was a sick joke. I assure you, I had to talk with a lot of Phoenix Police officers to cool down that situation, it was about as real as it gets! Then I had to go and get my son after a psych evaluation by 2 psych's downtown...He was cleared, but NOT by me. There's the problem...(Me.) I no longer trust him, his girlfriend, or the girlfriends mother. It created a mess here, for a lot of people, not just family members.
I am actually amazed that further (much more severe) charges weren’t brought.
It seems the girlfriend has been wanting to leave for the past 2 months, and my son decided the way to "force" her to stay was this "stunt". Not what I needed, I have to say. This could have easily turned into a Federal case of kidnapping, use of force, etc.. The girlfriend has moved out 2 days ago, and now I am left dealing with a hostile and aggressive young man. The only good part of all of this crap is: He is afraid of me. ( that's good and bad at the same time!)
He tried me once physically and I warned him to back off, he didn't and as a direct result: he went flying across the room. He learns the hard way. I love my son, but there is a line one must never cross....in my book he has crossed over that line.
Now he is intent on leaving, and I have no say about that. He is a young (adult) I really wanted to say moron/idiot/a88hole, and he is 20 years old. I guess it's time for him to leave and find out about the reality of life.
Yeah, it's REAL...not rumor, or my imagination! And it sucks!
Life is hard at times.....But some make it even more so by their actions, as they do not think ahead in terms of: what happens next?

I cant live without at least 2-2 liter bottles of RC cola a day!
Hey! It's my only vice left! Coffee?.... we don't need no stinkin' coffee!
LOL! ( now where that RC cola go? I Gotta have my fix!)
Got a tow hitch from harbor fruits...then I had to buy 4 chains, and 4 links, seems they are so cheap because they come with nothing in the box! Had a greeat sale on this weekend, parking lot was full! Then when I got inside it was worse! I was going to pick up a few items on sale...found out that you have to have the coupons or the sales are not sales at all...like those last days before Christmass, where the retailers jack up their prices 300 percent, then give it to you as a sale item and 50 percent off! To think if I only could have known in advance, I'd have saved over $300.00 on just a couple of items...I didn't and they didn't get a sale!
