                                 ACRONYM FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS



More or less specific to misc.survivalism and related type newsgroups:



MRE = Meals Ready to Eat.  Specifically, these are the rations developed

by the U.S. military to replace the older C rations.  They can be eaten

straight out of the package or heated.  There are several civilian

equivalents on the market.



TEOTWAWKI = The End Of The World As We Know It.  The expression's been in

use for years, but it was first introduced as an acronym to the newsgroup

by Mike Medintz (I think).



TANSTAAFL = There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.  I think this

pre-dates use by Robert Heinlein, but he is certainly the one who

popularized it.  He's also a *very* popular author in this newsgroup.





General to newsgroups of all sorts:



IIRC = If I Remember Correctly

AFAIK = As Far As I Know

OTOH = On The Other Hand

BTW = By The Way

IMHO or IMO = In My Humble Opinion or In My Opinion

LOL = Laugh Out Loud (many variations on this one)
