Load up on mags, and ammo.

 

The only thing these guys understand is power. If you will take more effort because you have a rifle on your back and the guy down the street does not, you will be passed up as a target.

Once there are no more "lesser" victims to be had the only thing that will dissuade them is a body count.

Don't bank of them being stupid enough to fire at you while presenting themselves as a target. The streets have taught them the folly of standing still and the wisdom of shooting from cover. Expect to expend ammo keeping their heads down as you break contact.

When resources run out in the cities guess where they will rove around looking for things to take ? If shtf at some point plan on dealing with people like these even if you don't live in the city.

 

Somehow, most 'Nam-era vets I know won't be terribly concerned about a fire-fight with those gomers...

 

Don't underestimate. Think roaches.... vast numbers of them but when you try to stomp on them they make quite the effort at not getting squished.

Bingo, there is more than one way to skin a cat, or open a sardine can. It is always folly to underestimate a human brain.

 

We live 3+ hours drive from any med/lrg. city I would say that the roaches will be thinned out by the time they get here.

A local cop told me the following a while back:

A few years back the gang bangers decided to move into our rural area. They started with a drive by at a local country bar. They never made it out of the parking lot. A local deputy sheriff was working the door (off-duty security) and he never got a shot off. He was busy pushing people on the ground as the shots hit overhead. Good ol' boy #1 was gettin' busy with his main squeeze in his pickup in the parking lot and heard the "thump...thump" and then the shots. He grabbed his scoped .30-06' from behind the seat and immediately pulverized the driver, one other passenger was hit several times by Good ol' boys #2, #3....but the killing blow came when a tow truck driver who was leaving the bar (rather well intoxicated) rammed his tow truck into the small rice burner killing the rest of the passengers. The deputy sheriff later commented that shots were coming from all over the parking lot, good ol' boys with shotguns and rifles were firing at the gang bangers from all over the parking lot.

Shortly thereafter there were a few of the urban types that came up missing, yet no bodies were ever found. All the LE investigators ever came up with was that they must have left town and head back to Houston, or Dallas, or wherever the hell they came from. (wink...wink, nudge...nudge.)

 

I am the furthest from rambo as one can get. I plan on laying low all the time. There are exceptions but as long as there is nothing behind me keeping me from backing away I prefer to save bullets. I just prefer having options of tools to use. I have always thought though that usually the best option is where everyone gets to walk away from. I am not beyond keeping my head down and just let trouble go about it's own way.

I think the rural citizens will be better prepared, and better armed than the thugs that could be coming their way. I thought it was normal to store your rifles and shotguns behind the seat of your pickup when I was growing up. My model 700 .270 and 870 Wingmaster lived behind the seat of my F250, and my Ruger single-six lived under that seat. I remember once I met up with three cousins for a football game at A&M. I was a senior in high school, and when I pulled up one of my cousins who was attending school up north (Tulsa) ran over with a buddy from L.A. and he told me to settle a bet and show the city boy what I had behind my seat. Well, I had three rifles and a shotgun. This kid couldn't believe it. To me though, that was normal. I was a regular kid growing up in small town Texas. We all did that. We all had our deer rifle, our bird gun, and usually a .22 in our pickup. You never could tell when the opportunity would arise that you could go hunting. Now I know that times have changed, but there are still plenty of kids like me, and communities like the ones I was raised in. You never can tell when that environment will present itself and you have to be prepared. No matter what you are hunting.
