    Wyoming House advances doomsday bill

CHEYENNE — State representatives on Friday advanced legislation to launch a study into what Wyoming should do in the event of a complete economic or political collapse in the United States.

House Bill 85 passed on first reading by a voice vote. It would create a state-run government continuity task force, which would study and prepare Wyoming for potential catastrophes, from disruptions in food and energy supplies to a complete meltdown of the federal government.

The task force would look at the feasibility of Wyoming issuing its own alternative currency, if needed. And House members approved an amendment Friday by state Rep. Kermit Brown, R-Laramie, to have the task force also examine conditions under which Wyoming would need to implement its own military draft, raise a standing army, and acquire strike aircraft and an aircraft carrier.

The bill’s sponsor, state Rep. David Miller, R-Riverton, has said he doesn’t anticipate any major crises hitting America anytime soon. But with the national debt exceeding $15 trillion and protest movements growing around the country, Miller said Wyoming — which has a comparatively good economy and sound state finances — needs to make sure it’s protected should any unexpected emergency hit the U.S.

Several House members spoke in favor of the legislation, saying there was no harm in preparing for the worst.

“I don’t think there’s anyone in this room today what would come up here and say that this country is in good shape, that the world is stable and in good shape — because that is clearly not the case,” state Rep. Lorraine Quarberg, R-Thermopolis, said. “To put your head in the sand and think that nothing bad’s going to happen, and that we have no obligation to the citizens of the state of Wyoming to at least have the discussion, is not healthy.”

Wyoming’s Department of Homeland Security already has a statewide crisis management plan, but it doesn’t cover what the state should do in the event of an extreme nationwide political or economic collapse. In recent years, lawmakers in at least six states have introduced legislation to create a state currency, all unsuccessfully.

The task force would include state lawmakers, the director of the Wyoming Department of Homeland Security, the Wyoming attorney general and the Wyoming National Guard’s adjutant general, among others.

The bill must pass two more House votes before it would head to the Senate for consideration. The original bill appropriated $32,000 for the task force, though the Joint Appropriations Committee slashed that number in half earlier this week.

University of Wyoming political science professor Jim King said the potential for a complete unraveling of the U.S. government and economy is “astronomically remote” in the foreseeable future.

But King noted that the federal government set up a Continuity of Government Commission in 2002, of which former U.S. Sen. Al Simpson, R-Wyo., was co-chairman. However, King said he didn’t know of any states that had established a similar board.

Perhaps the Wyoming legislature's taskforce might seek the advice of the Swiss Navy about the deployment of aircraft carriers by landlocked countries. I presume that the legislature is referring to passenger and freight airline capability.

My thoughts to a "T". Not many ports in Wyoming.....;)
What's next? Are they looking at nuclear submarines?

Maybe they've been watching movies like "2012" where the entire west coast of the U.S. breaks off and slides into the Pacific.....and Wyoming will be considerably closer to an ocean if that happened, lol! Also, some survivor series have shown the U.S. as breaking up into separate "countries" and Wyoming could conceivably team up with the states to the west of them! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw they were actually talking about issuing their own currency etc! Well, the message is finally beginning to sink in......the world is in a mess and the ostriches are getting their heads out of the sand. One down and 49 to go???

Here in Canada, a report by a panel of economists has been presented to Parliament re ways to save money and all that jazz....and the little darlings have come up with the idea that our FOOD SHOULD BE TAXED. At the moment it is not, but we have a tax called GST (it stands for Goods and Services Tax) and up till now food has been exempt in most cases. As well, there was recommendation to tax Drugs (Meds, that is). Canadians are a pretty laid back bunch as a rule but I think if our Government tries to implement this, they may find that the worm has turned and has grown TEETH. Millions are just barely making ends meet as it is and they are going to tax food! Of course it is "just a recommendation" at the moment but we all know how quickly recommendations can be come fact. You will hear me scream all the way down to the tip of CA if it does!

Granny.... If you look at the Fault Zones and the way they are moving, ONLY Southern Kommiefornia will Break Off, and fall into the Ocean. (Couldn't Happen to a Nicer Bunch of Folks) The rest of the West Coast is being shoved HIGHER, by the OffShore Subduction Zone.... Wyoming needs to be more worried about Yellowstone SuperVolcano, than the Pacific Ocean moving east. ...... YMMV....

It does show that there are some that are thinking of their people for a change rather than their own gain !!

A Nuke submarine for Wyoming might not seem so silly!

Well of course a nuclear powered submarine would make much more sense than an aircraft carrier....the power generating capabilities of a nuke submarine could keep the Cheyenne Mayor's office and the county jail supplied with electricity for years....and it probably could accomodate enough Tomahawk nuclear missiles to take out every state capital in the lower States of the Union, with some double ups for the Capitol and the White House...it may give the President a bit more of an incentive to respect the States' Constitutional rights. : O

The problem is Fed Exing a nuke submarine from its fleet base to Cheyenne????

So, just what lake will this landlocked state float that puppy in? [dunno]

Hope they look into the operating cost of those birdfarms, even docked and empty they ring up a pretty penny per day......

As to State defense, more power to them! They'll need to make sure the Feds can't drain off all their National Guard assets too.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

As far as the aircraft carrier goes, that's a bit silly.. But everything else seems logical enough to concern themselves with.

Maybe its to throw everyone off, with some humor..
While they seriously toil away at the real concerns.

Its a tactic I've used numerous times over the years when talking to people about my "plans" or prepping.. When you see that they start thinking your crazy, throw something ludicrous out there to make light of the subject and then they blow you off as just being funny.

And then you go on about your merry way, prepping and planning..

Easy partner, some of us patriots are prisoners here because of several things, including pensions we have paid into. Myself, I have 5.5 years left on 30 year career, then I can retire and leave this God forsaken hell hole.

Chell, E.L., Overland commerce travels through "Ports of Entry" in Wyoming. All commercial vehicles over 14,000 lbs. must enter a Port of Entry, and be weighed and checked.

I was wondering if somebody would pick up on it, when I read it I was wondering if it was some sort of typo. It did not make much sense to me.

    Any storm in a port!

FAlcon, we also have them in Australia as well....they are colloquially called weighing stations....that doesn't mean that they are located on railways or that we weigh our locomotives and rolling stock on them. But I do recognise your nice double entendre.

Just had a thought...does Wyoming have different ports of exit...or do ports do double duty???

Even China doesn't have any serious aircraft carriers yet. The idea that Wyoming needs one is just silly

There are so many things that they could be doing that wouldn't cost so much taxpayer money.

What you are talking about are weigh stations and/ State Border Checkpoints, aka Port of Entry.

This does not explain the need for an aircraft carrier. Which is what we were pointing out and what I thought might have been some sort of typo in the article.

I could see a coastal state but Wyoming is a bit far from any body of water with enough draft for an aircraft carrier.

Hey, don't be so cavalier about disposing of the poor folks in CA, lol! My grandson's girl friend (one of the dearest, nicest, sweetest young ladies you could ever meet) and my best friend from my childhood in Scotland, are both there. I have a real burden for the Californians and their safety! And the reason I thought the entire west coast was to "disappear" was that I have just finished reading a doomsday book ("Earth's Blood") and that is what happened. Guess I have too literal a mindset...taking the printed word as gospel without questioning it!
